Sounds like you need to check the grommet between the motor and the pump. If this grommet connector breaks, the motor will come on but the pump will not work. Turn the unit upside down and look where the motor connects to the pump. Be aware if you can lose your oil while turning upside down unless you cap the port and exhaust. If this is it, go straight to the Robinair web site and you can order one for around $25.
We had a 34788 with the same problem.
Just wanted to post the fix here... We got the nearest
Robinair certified service tech out to look at the machine
for us.
The problem turned out to be a solenoid sticking and not
letting refrigerant through when it was supposed to... So it
would only pull down the low side and not the high side.
One key symptom to look for here, is, that it will sit there
saying "clearing" and never actually "clear".
In case this helps anyone, it was the "normal discharge
solenoid" that was the problem. This is one of the 12v
manifold solenoids (part # RA20010).

I had the same problem. I removed all solenoid valves and check valves and blew it out with air and i found debris in the recover check valve and i replaced the recover solenoid.
