The igniter comes on, lights the flame but the flame only stays on for about 5 seconds and then the flame shuts off. About 1 minute or two later this cycle repeats itself.

There's a heat sensor that's in the path of the flame. It's supposed to detect when the flame is lit properly so you don't fill your house with unburned gas.

I'd bet that sensor has gone south, or maybe the wire going to it.

What brand/model is it? A diagram and parts listing might come in handy.

Oven takes 5 minutes to come on (ignite).

Replaced the igniter. The parts guy told me that the amperage changes with age and use; thus the igniter still glows, but it takes much longer to operate the gas valve with the reduced amperage. Cost - $70.14

Rheem Furnace sometimes takes a couple of ignition cycles before

Try cleaning the flame sensor. It is located right besides the last burner. Looks like a thick piece of wire. Take steel wool and gently remove the carbon that has built up. Should only take 4 or 5 strokes. Let me know how it goes after that. ken
