Hello,

This is intended as a guide to defrosting a refrigerator that has the freezer on the top. Side by sides and bottom freezers may be similar but will require some different procedures to remove covers to get at the defrost coils.

If your refrigerator is not cooling but your freezer is still working then you most likely have a problem with Ice buildup. Sometimes the ice will start to form inside the refrigerator on the bottom of the freezer compartment, even though the refrigerator section is not staying cool.

1. Empty out the freezer section so that you can remove the bottom panel that covers the evaporator coils. Side by side refrigerators often have the access panel in the back of the freezer.
2. Use a hair dryer or fan to speed up the melting of the ice. Towels will be needed to soak up the water. A wet/dry shop vac and a hair dryer work the best. Melt with one and collect the water with the other.
3. Take the couple of screws that hold the defrost coil loose and remove the heater. With an Ohm meter check the resistance of the coil. If the coil is bad you will get either and open or shorted circuit. If you get a good consistent resistance then it is okay.
4. If your heater coil is good and the fan/blower is working then you probably need to replace the defrost timer or advanced defrost control board, whichever is in your unit.

Hope this help in solving the problem.....

How do you manually defrost a Samsung RF261 refrigerator and how long should the defrost cycle last.

Defrost cycles in normal conditions can last from five (5) to 25 (25) minutes, depending on variables like humidity, runs times and how often the door is opened. Defrosting the unit manually as you've done is merely a short term solution as it recurs again over time. You should find out why it is not working automatically, as intended. This could be a problem with poor air flow (fan, blower or restricted air), a bad control, or even loose connections. Forcing defrost without correcting the underlying issue will not eliminate the problem.

How do I defrost my frozen freezer?

the defrost circuitry is not defrosting the unit due to a defectice defrost heater, thermostat or adc control, shut it off and let it defrost manually or use a hand held hair dryer to assist in the manual defrost, then remove the inside back wall cover in the freezer in there you will find the defrost heater and thermostat, have towels handy as when you manually defrost it you will have a lot of drainage and the catch pan in the back that catches this water will most likely overflow

How to check True GDM-49 defrost timer?

The model KSRG25FK has a W10353224 Defrost Control Board that is also used as Adaptive defrost meaning it tries to conserve defrost to prevent repeated defrost that timers use, This tends to save wasted energy yet has its problems of its own because it is electronic and as always electronics fail. The word adaptive is used because the electronic defrost attempts to prevent unneeded defrost to save energy. Whirlpool ER2CHMXPL00 freezer is frosting up

Lets start by going inside your fresh food compartment and see if you can find a round hole most times covered by a plastic plug to hide opening. Remove plug and place a flathead screwdriver in opening and slowly turn the defrost timer clockwiseuntil you hear compressor and fans stop. This is called forcing manual defrost. After a few moments you should hear some sizzle or crackle noise coming from freezer compartment. That will be the defrost heater warming up the unmelted frost. Click Here=> ER2CHMXPL00 Liner Parts See item location 4? That is the defrost timer While the freezer has been set manually in defrost the defrost timer should be trying to come out of defrost itself after about 25 minutes. If it does not come out of defrost simply turn clockwise until the compressor restarts. If you need to do this replace the defrost timer.

If doing the above does not help you will need to manually defrost the freezer with a hair drier. Unplug refrigerator and remove the rear panel in back of your freezer. This is where you will see the defrost heater. Click Here=> ER2CHMXPL00 Unit Parts

Most likely the defrost timer is the part that is needing replaced. If not then the other two parts listed here are very possible reasons for the defrost failure.

How do i get a sub zero model 690/f into manual defrost

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.

It took me a while to locate my service manual but here are the steps word for word:

Initiating Freezer Manual Defrost

To manually initiate freezer evaporator defrost, press

and hold the ICE key at the control panel for ten seconds.

(See Figure 3-15).

NOTE: To observe the initiation of manual defrost,

"ICE" must be displayed on the LCD. Then press and

hold the ICE key for ten seconds. At first, "ICE" will disappear.

After ten seconds of holding the ICE key, "ICE"
will appear again, indicating manual defrost has begun.

This is what you had asked for. Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

I have a kenmore frost free freezer. the model number is 253.26432100. please tell me how to initiate a defrost check on this type of freezer. it has a digital thermostat and no manual timer that you can...

Hi.

You cannot manually initiate a defrost check on this unit because this is an automatic self defrost cycling fridge/freezer.

There is no way to start a manual defrost check. Manual defrost can be done disconnecting the power plug from main overnight. In that case check the drain pan located at the bottom of the unit before defrost is done.

If there is ice buildup on condenser coil, then defrost system is malfunctioning.

In that case the parts in the defrost system must be tested.

Here temporary link to user manual.

If that does not work, use this link.

Here link to part list and diagram.

Regards.

How do i defrost my 4.cu ft manual defrost fridge?

Turn it off or unplug it, put a big towel inside to catch the water, afterward, wipe off the water and turn it back on. Some manual defrost fridge has a defrost button, you can push it once and it will defrost it for you.
