Hi,

Vacuums are noisy, but shouldn't sound like a jet.....

Trying to find out what is wrong depends on what kind of noise it makes, i.e. high squeal, vibration, whining and where it comes from.

Here is a webpage with troubleshooting advice on noise in vacuum cleaners. Hopefully you should be able to track down the problem. http://www.ehow.com/how_7493926_fix-noise-vacuum-cleaner-motor.html

If you need further help with repairs, please reply back. Thanks,

Handie Andie

Hi,
My Hoover elite rewind made the same noise. Replacing the brush roll (beater bar) solved the problem.

Makes a loud noise like a grinding noise then smokes comes out and it smells like burning rubber? When I take the (rod) brush off with the belt then run the vacuum there is no more noise? Please help me...

Your belt is worn and stretched and so it is slipping on the motor drive shaft. That is why it is noisy and smells like burning rubber. You simply need to replace the belt. You can get replacement belts here:

Beater bar not turning, making loud sound

This machine has a clutch assy. that slips and makes a loud noise
when something gets stuck in the roller brush. If you have nothing stuck in the roller brush chances are the clutch is worn and needs
replacing. Not an easy job and best done by a repair tech. You can find a video on youtube showing how to replace the clutch if you are
inclined to try to do it yourself.

My Electrolux is about 3 years old. Never had any problems with it until recently, it is LOUD. It doesn't seem to make a 'normal' running noise unless it butts up against a wall, furniture, etc. trying to vacuum is like being on a jet runway. Is something clogged? Does it just have issues from not being used for about a year? (Last house had no carpet).

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
It sounds to me that you have a broken fan, in every vacuum I have seen with the loud noise such as you described, it has been a broken fan or fan blade and is in need of replacement. You can try to do it yourself but I suggest going to your local vacuum cleaner dealer for service with the problem. Remember, a suggested belt change if the belt is flat would be 4 to 6 months and If you have a geared belt the belt change would be one year or better depending on wear factor. So, if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
