The disk that came with your system is a recovery disk only. You will need a full installation disk from your local retailer or you can match the OS from your old HDD and use the serial key on the side/back of your machine. If you just wanted more space, install both drives and set the original one as the boot drive. the new drive, if properly installed (refer to your hdd instructions and jumper settings) you will see the second drive under "My Computer" as additional storage

Emachine EL1852 keep on restarting

Hi,
Does it load operating system fully before restarting? If it does, run a full scan of the drive with an updated anti-virus.
If not,do a reboot[enslave] of your hard disk from another computer. This is how to:-
Remove the hard disk from your machine.
Disconnect CD/DVD ROM from machine 2 and connect your hard drive.
Start the machine.'You're trying to run Unix' alert comes on, press f1[ save changes].
A disk check operation starts. This repairs the operating system on your hard disk.
After successful loading operating system of machine2,turn it off and remove your drive.
Fix it on your machine and start it.

Hope this helps.Thanks!

I have a w3622 and put in a new hard drive and tried to use the OS disk that came with the computer. what I get is PXE-E61: media test failure. check cable. Disk boot failure.insert system disk.

Hello,

Sorry to hear about the trouble you are having. Try the following tips and lets see if we can get it up and running.

-Set the boot order in BIOS to boot from the disk drive first. In order to get to the BIOS, you will need to select BIOS option or Settings when the machine is booting up.

Most often, the above error is caused due to incorrect BIOS settings or a faulty hardware, such as hard disk. Sometimes, the error may also occur if the computer tries to boot from a device, on which it cannot find the required boot files. An improperly connected hard disk is also known to cause the same type of issue.

You should follow the below steps sequentially in order to isolate the cause and solve the issue:
  • Verify all the cable connections of the hard disk. An improper or loose connection is likely to be the reason, in case the hard disk has been recently installed or moved.
  • Check if no other storage device is connected to the computer. If it is, remove it.
  • Enter the BIOS setup when trying to start the computer and see if hard disk has been correctly setup and detected in BIOS. If the hard disk cannot be detected due to any reason, you should consider the next suggestion as it might be physical failure.

Hard drive on an eMachine computer desktop has crashed. Computer won't boot. Is there anyway to get files off the crashed hard drive?

take the hard drive to a local computer guru... recovery will depend on what caused the crash, and what has happened since then. Basically, he or she will need to try to boot your hard drive with another tower, or pull all the info directly from the disks themselves. If you had to ask this question, you're gonna need help to fix it.... Sorry.

Laptop boots up and says operating system not found

This error message occurs when the laptop/computer boots up and cannot find a hard disk and/or operating system.
This could be a faulty hard disk or disk controller.
First - re-seat the hard disk and reboot the computer. If this does not work then reboot and go to the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty.
Next - to determine if the hard drive is faulty, remove the hard drive and insert it into an USB hard drive adapter and connect it to a working computer's USB port. If this computer cannot see it as an external hard drive and you cannot open the various folders and files, this confirms the hard drive is faulty.
The hard drive needs to be replaces in the laptop and Windows installed and the laptop's device drivers and your programs etc to get a functioning laptop again.

Need to reload windows xp on Emachines PC

Yes all you have to do is.........

Turn off the Computer
Turn back on and Press F11 repeatedly when the message "Press F11 to start recovery" is displayed.
The recovery will load and display a menu of options:

Full System Restore (with Backup): This options will move all Hard Disk contents to the "c:\My Backup" directory and install a new copy of Windows. This option preserves your existing data files, however all applications and settings will need to be reinstalled. This option requires 4GB of free Hard Disk space for the new OS.

Alway suggest backing up your data before you do any recovery

Emachine T1100 Emachine window then no system window

It sounds like the hard drive has been wiped or is dead or not connected. Check the power and control cables to the hard drive. Check drive with a maintenance diskette or CD. Replace drive if bad. If wiped or replaced, you need to re-install an operating system, such as MS Windows-XP, or Ubuntu (a free, downloadable, Debian GNU/Linux based operating system with a Windows-like user interface).
