Upon turning on my camera, the lens extends, then retracts and repeats this before shutting off. It will let me view previously stored pictures, but won't take any new ones. Help?

hi.. You can try a different memory card, but I don't think the problem is
memory card, if pictures look scrambled, and colors and brightness are
not uniform, that is either a problem with CCD sensor (optic sensor
that takes the picture), or logic board. In either case, this is not an easy repair.
Reset
the camera to default settings from camera menu, and try a different
memory card, but the camera will probably need to be sent in for
repairs...
I am having the same problem with my camera. I have to take the batteries out to get it to shut down. I also cannot view my photos on the camera, when I try to turn it to view, it goes to shoot mode.
Belikes, any external object is trapped in between your Lens Motor and Camera Body. You should consult Authorized Service Personnel to handle this trouble.
I had the same issue and thought me Ebay camera was trash. I put the batteries back on the charger over night and it worked properly in the morning. Looked to be a low power
issue, but my lens did look like it was all cocked, grinding and stalling. perhaps the camera reset itself with no batteries in it for a few hours> I was very relieved.
