How do we add additional handsets to a vtech 6.0 phone?

Unfortunately, the old handsets may not be compatible with the new base. The DS6251-2 base only communicates with the DS6250 accessory handset. If the old handsets have been deregistered from the previous base unit, place a handset in the cradle on the base. Wait to see if the handset is registered. Alternately, press and hold Page until you see Registering. Release the Page button. Then press Quiet/# (below 9) on the handset. Wait for the handset to be registered.

To deregister handsets from the DS6251 base, press and hold Page. You'll see Registering Please Wait followed by Deregister all devices? At this point, release the Page button. Then press and release Page or the soft key for Yes.

Yes it can be done, the instructions are in the phones user manual. Here is a link to help you add the handset. VTech DECT 6 0 CS6219 User Manual Add And Register Handset

Place the handset on the base. See "Add and register a handset" on page 23 of the manual: Owners Manual User Guide for Vtech 2 handset cordless phone system caller...

Instructions for registering additional new handsets on VTech Model DS6151: Place additional handset on main base. Press HOLD on main base and # on handset. Asks you to de-register. Press no. Registration of additional handset takes place.

The 15 digit number shoudl be on a sticker on the bottom of the base unit.

If the other three handsets work ok then you have a defective handset.

If your base is a VT2651:
1) take phone off of the base's cradle.
2) enter **335782 on the keypad
3) phone beeps
4) remove all batteries from handsets.
5) reinstall battery in 1st handset, and enter the code number for the base unit (sticker on bottom of base). First handset will be set to phone 1
6) repeat step 5 for all other handsets.

If your base is a VT2656, there is no keypad on the base. I don't know the trick to reregister the handsets. I wish I did, since that is the problem I am having.
