I find the user manual, for the DVD player ona18dp001, to be inadequate. What is the password for? Do I need it in order to play a DVD? What is the reason for the coxial jack? Thanks.

The password is used if the parental control is enabled. This lets a parent/guardian ensure that DVDs can't be watched without the password if the movie has a rating above the chosen limit. (If you obtained a used DVD player where previous owner chose to lock the system to Kid safe, you'd need the password to watch any movie that doesn't have that rating.) If the parental control is off, you do not need the password.

I can't find much on the ONA18DP001. In general, some older DVD players have an RF (coaxial) out cable connection for viewing the video on an older TV (NTSC tuner) with only an RF input. If your TV has other input options, you don't need to consider this input.

I hope this helps.

Parental controls

HI,
Do the following for unlock the parental control. For this you should need the remote for the DVD payer.
1. Press the set-up button on the remote (set-up display will come on the TV screen )
2. Using Right arrow button or Left arrow button select DVD Setup menu
3. Using Down arrow select Parental control and press Enter button
4. now you can change the parental rating using up down arrows
If it ask for password the read the following carefully and do the same and enjoy your videos.
PARENTAL CONTROL LEVELS 1-8
The Parental Lock allows you to limit the use of your DVD Player to only those DVD discs that do not exceed the rating you specify. When the Parental Control is set, DVD discs that support this feature will play only after the password has been entered. However, typically only discs produced by major entertainment companies support Parental Control. Discs not supporting this feature will be "immune" to Lock-Out. When you attempt to change the Parental Control setting, you are prompted for a password. This of course makes sense, as this option would be useless if your kids could enter the Setup Menu and disable it! If there is no user password set, you'll be prompted to enter a new password. Choose a 4-Digit numeric password and write it down in Case you forget it. Key in the password and press ENTER. After the password is set, press ENTER on the CHILD option. You can choose from 8 levels of Parental Control, corresponding to the standard rating system in the USA. The available levels and their equivalent ratings are listed to the right.

PASSWORD - CHANGE
Here is where you can set an additional password to the default factory password. The procedures to change an existing password or enter a new password are the same - you must enter the OLD PASSWORD, then key in your new password twice to confirm. If you are entering a new password, or replacing a password you have forgotten, use the factory default password of 3351 as the OLD PASSWORD. If you are changing a previously entered password, you may enter that value as the old password.

A. Remember to keep in mind that the key to the the factory default password of 3351
B. Once the factory password has been changed, you should keep the password written in a safe location as a reminder if needed

How can I change the parental control? Somehow the parental controls are set on the DVD player and it will not allow me to play certain dvds without a password

Unfortunately there are no known ways to change the user code. The parental controls are set because it's a DVD player for kids - and you must input the password every time you want to play a DVD.

1369 is the code to allow you to play blocked movies. I still haven't found a way to change the level. Again, you have to input the code each time. I know it stinks, but I guess they didn't think of the parental feature in its entirety.

Plays on wrong channel

ok i downloaded and read your DVR-1000 manual , this is what you will do .

While the DVD+VCR is turned off, press and hold CHANNEL (up/down) button on the front panel for about five seconds.

The unit will turn itself on and “RF 03” or “RF 04” appears on
the front panel display

Use CH ( up / down ) button on the front panel or CH ( up / down ) button on the remote control to change the RF output
channel (CH 03 or CH 04).

Turn the DVD+VCR off and then on

Set the TV to channel 3 or 4 depending on the RF
output channel you selected.
Now you can watch the DVD+VCR playback on CH3
or CH4 of your TV

PS , you should see a child lock button on the remote , if you press that button , you will disable front panel button controls so kids can't change anything , press it again to unlock that feature , it might come in handy.

Thanks for using Fix Ya .

Parental code

You can take your time putting in the code. I mistakenly had the impression
you had to time it just right. But no.

Just close the tray with no disc inside, it will say NO DISC.

On the remote, press MENU, the "non-applicable" slash circle graphic comes
up.

Then press 1, (same slash circle), then press 9, and the menu pops up.

My menu says:

Region : 1
Password : ____
Level : 8. Adult

By default, the region number is highlighted. This is where I got confused. I
pressed the control pad on the remote left and right and up and down and
nothing changed the number.

The only way to change the number is to press ENTER on the remote and it
then cycles through all the numbers available. I was never given a chance to
punch in a number, I tried it and it didn't work.

While I was here, I also set my password code and looked through the choices
for LEVEL. I think it is a system to limit the type of movie that could be
played, for instance, if the DVD player was for a child's room, you could limit
the level to G, PG, or PG-13 and it wouldn't play movies rated worse than
that. good luck
please mark the post with a fixya!

Dvd troubles

Same problems with my unit.  But, try this... I think it worked.  First, you can not get to the setup screen for the unit with a DVD in the player.  So, remove the DVD first:  Unplug the unit, wait a few seconds, plug it back in.  Then hit the DVD open button and remove DVD in player.

I think the issue with not reading certain DVDs is a problem with the "parental control" on the unit. Without setting parental control there were a few DVDs I could not play and sometimes (not always) I was asked about parental control before a movie would play.  At the Sony Blue DVD screen, select Setup on the remote control.  Select DVD setup and get to Parental control.  Set a password.  This will then take you to a "rating" screen.  By setting the rating very high (I set mine for #8) any movie should play without needing the password.  With no password set, you can not change the "rating" and hence mine was set at #1 (kids).  It seems to have worked for now anyway.  Good luck.
