Grinding sound when camera is turned on

The zoom lens goes in and out when I turn it on and it makes a grinding noise then after it stops moving if I take a picture it comes out really blurry. If I try to zoom in or out it just adjusts its self again. Any help would be really appreciated.thanks.

My camera is doing the same thing-it was less than one-year old and I can't find the original receipt for the 1-year- warranty. Darn!

If you bought it at Circuit City or Best Buy, you should be able to get them to reprint the receipt for you. Any electronics they sell over a certain $$ amount is automatically in their system.

When i turn my camera on it makes a grinding noise, displays an camera with red x

Power is fine, your case sounds like a jam or an obstruction by a foreign object in the lens (lodged between the extension barrels of the lens. This is an extreme situation and you need professional help, unless you are good at fixing things yourself.

It's making a grinding noise.

It's the zoom mechanism. You either have dirt / sand trapped in there or the gears have broken.

I bought a brand new 580 ex 11 flash unit. When I turn it on it makes a grinding type of noise and then the zoom in the upper right coner continues to flash. I can't test fire it but the pilot light is...

The grinding noise is the zoom head trying to match the focal length of your lens. A brand new one should NOT grind. It should be silent. It sounds like you got the one that fell off the pallet during shipping. Exchange it for another one.

Noise while zooming with sb-600

sb-600/800 make a distinct motor-spinning noise when zooming, this is normal. Any grinding/clicking noises are not normal.

3040--Lens cap on when camera turned on

There is no way either of you or a tech can fix this problem without taking the camera apart. Sounds to me like the worm or drive gear is stripped or displaced...probably a 10 cent part...unless you have the ability to do this type of work...its best left to the techs.

There is a risky thing to do...and that is...perhaps its just "jumped" the gear...so it grinds when it attempts to move either in or out....you may be able to manually turn the lens and "click" it back into place. Gently turn it all the way right...then all the way left.
I would want to look inside first before I do anything else...it may be an easy fix...taking it apart will be the not so easy thing.

3040 Issues

A stuck pixel on the LCD is quite common. I have one on my 2020z; lot of people here would tell you the same thing. Long as it's just one, I wouldn't bother trying to get new camera. Far as the lens extension sound: It is a little loud, but a *grinding noise* doesn't sound normal. Go to a store and pick up another one, see if it makes the same sound. If not, you may have a bad camera.
