Is this a common occurance or a one time thing? if it's common the cooktop might not be wired to the supply correctly causing th phases to be unbalanced drawing too much current from one phase instead of both evenly ish. you'd have to meter it out to see but if you aren't knowledgable with electrical stuff get an electrician to check it if it only happened the one time and isn't anymore probably don't need to worry about it

Maytag MER5552BAW stopped working while cooking last night. Was using the cooktop and the oven and all seemed to turn off at once. May have had water spill into on of the burners.

Go to your electrical panel and check the circuit breakers. If one is tripped it will be in a halfway position. switch off then on. If it keeps tripping you may have to call a repair man.

I have a GE 36" Profile Gas Cooktop JGP963 and when i light one of the burners, it trips the GFCI , main breaker and a little fire ball comes from under the knob. what could cause this?

IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE A SHORT IN THE IGNITER. YOUR COOKTOP SHOULD BE ON A DEDICATED CIRCUIT AND NOT A GFCI. YOU MIGHT HAVE TWO CIRCUITS TIED INTO THE SAME RUN. POPPING THE GFCI AND THE MAIN BREAKER IS SUSPECT. THE GFCI SHOULD SHUT DOWN THE CIRCUIT WITHOUT POPPING THE MAIN. THIS IS PROBLEM THAT SHOULD BE LOOKED AT BY AND ELECTRITION.

GE cooktop ignitor jgp

Look for a short in the wiring (usually white wires running to the ignitors) or a loose ground wire. (usually green)

Burn knobs and fan turn on, lights are on but the burners don't come on and there is no heat.

hello after looking at your wiring diagram the only thing it can be is a blown breaker in your home. half of it works off 120v of the 240v circuit and the heating elements off the other 120v line. so you are only getting half the power to your unit. turn the breakers off and on see if maybe it just tripped.but its not the cooktop. hope this helps please dont forget to rate me thanks ken

Jenn Air cooktop JED8430ADB not heating, fan & knob lights work?

Some times a breaker can be partially tripped and not visible . You should try turning the breaker off and on several times.

always unplug electricity before attempting to repair on any electrical appliance

The circuit breaker for out kitchenaid glass

Water probably did get into the switch(es). The best bet for a fast fix is to pull the knobs off and use an air can (like for blowing dust out electronics) to blow down into the holes. This will dry out any water in there and should allow you to use it again. To be extra sure, blow out the switches and leave the knobs off over night. In the morning the knobs can be replaced and the cook top should be good to use. Hope this helps!

Viking professional induction cooktop large burners defective

Throw your circuit breaker that leads to this unit for a few seconds, then reset the breaker This unit is very sensitive to power fluctuations.

Whirlpool Flat cooktop burner not heating up

Try cleaning the knobs. I did the same thing you did (turning the circuit breaker off but that did not solve the problem.

My wife just tried turning the knobs and that seemed to work. It appears that one of the knobs may have been so sticky that the though it's in the OFF position it thinks it's still ON.

Tripping breaker

Replace the burner and receptacle and you should be short free. You may also need to replace the surface element switch too if it doesn't come on at all or stays on high regardless off knob setting.

Kitchenaid Gas Cooktop with electronic ignition

you sound as if the short is occourring within the switch assy perhaps water has spilled on it, listed on gas range, but assuming you have an electric unit, with the knobs poking through the glass
