My grinder starts slowly and takes time to build up to speed. It is a model 612 and does not appear to be a capacitive start motor. All I can see under the base plate is a relay. Thanks for your help. James Smith

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly
Inside your grinder either the stationary switch or the rotating assembly that actuates the stationary switch has failed.

Download this pdf file:
http://www.baldor.com/pdf/literature/CA506_0806_WEB.pdf Then go to page 9

The rotating assembly is this part number: (most common failure)
34RS2060SP

You must remove the end plate / cap to change this part.

The statonary switch rarely fails unless the rotating assembly damaged the contacts when the rotating assemble failed. When the rotating assembly fails you often find a spring and flyweight loose inside the grinder during disassembly. Should your stationary switch have failed try and get a number off of it so you can get the right switch. Otherwise you have to use NEMA code / Body type numbers.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

DCC-790 Cuisinart coffe maker won't grind

what showing on display ,when push to make coffee? If showing grinder block-then you have to replace the grinder to fix it. Try to grind coffee ,but without beans-if grinder start but rotate slowly -you have to replace grinder and change the brushes of the motor.

Unit has hard time starting, need to turn wheel, only runs at slow speed

you have a problem with the bearings or the motor/brushes are burnt. Does this tool arc when running. If so I would check the brushes first, unplug the tool and remove them and while they are out rotate the motor slowly and look at the commutator bars for excessive discoloration or unusual wear.

I have an old Craftsman bench grinder that I got at an auction. I need a capacitor and the one on it has no markings. It is a 1hp model 319.19063. Sears Parts direct says that it is no longer available and...

this is a "Split-Phase"motor it uses only a run capacitor and a typical capacitance rated MFD rating will be between 80 and 290 MFD, go to www. grainger..com and they will have your part, and even if its an older unit and the model/serial/number is available take it with you & they will have a replacement capacitor available in the correct size/dimension/mfd/etc

I have a ludell (machine tool) bench grinder. The problem is that the grinder disc will not turn. The motor hums but won't turn. I took the disc off and turned the shaft by hand with the powder on and it...

Ah, the start winding is not operating. When you turn the motor by hand. When the motor speeds up, do you hear a click sound? This is the start winding switch working. There might be a capacitor that is wired in with this switch that is used to start the grinder. If this capacitor is fried, the motor will not start. If the switch is shot, also the motor will not start. There could also be a wire or connector in this part of the motor that is not connected, or fried and not making contact. These are a few things to look for.

Takes a long time 2 build 130 lbs. of pressure & cannot keep consistent amount of replacement air refilling tank while i use my angle grinder for more30 -50 seconds. oil level good, could motor...

Check the oil in the cylinder, check if single phase type on the capacitor to the motor, replace if the speed/torque is low.
check belt for slippage ,if so tighten by pulling the motor backwards after loosening the mountings and then tightnening.
If the motor speed is good and still the pressure build up is low then it is possible that there is low compression in the cylinder. Might have to overhaul to better efficiency. Hope there is no leak in the tank or drain or the cut off valves.

Grinder starts and runs then peters out and gets pretty warm. Is capaciter bad?

Most probably. the motor will overamp, get hot and go out on internal overload.

Top loader Speed Queen takes long time to complete one wash.

sounds like your belt is worn or the tension spring too tight on belt the vee part of the belt should not be rubber it should look like a material type coating to let it slip until it gets up to full speed (It,s Meant to slip) If it,s worn the rubber in the belt will grip too much.Hope this helps.Cheers.

Motor hums and dont turn but will pick up speed if you spin the wheels

Hi, I don't know which model you have but it either has a start capacitor or starter windings that are bad. That's why it will run with a start by you. If you are handy you can take it apart and replace a capacitor for a couple bucks. Start windings you need a multimeter to find the problem. Good Luck, this should Fixya!

Grinder starts and stops on startup

if this is a cap start motor and not a centrifugal start run motor then bad cap is good place to start
