Here is the solution from nintendo:

  1. Power off the Wii. Connect the official Nintendo Wii LAN adapter to the Wii, and insert a working ethernet cable into the official Nintendo Wii LAN Adapter.
  2. Unplug all devices from your modem. Most modems are unable to support more than one device at a time.
  3. Power cycle your modem. To do this, unplug the power from your modem and let it rest for 20 seconds. Plug the power back in. Connect the Ethernet cable from your Wii console to the Ethernet port on your modem.
  4. If the connection test fails, try a "Manual Setup" with the Wii console (how to), using your network's IP address, Default Gateway, Subnet Mask, and DNS information. To access these settings:
    1. On your PC, click "Start" and then "Run."
    2. Type "CMD" into the field that appears to open a new window.
    3. Type "IPCONFIG/ALL" and press "Enter" to display a list of internet settings, including the settings listed above. Input theseexactly as they're listed into the "Manual Setup" of the Wii console's internet connection.
  5. If you are still unable to connect and you are using broadband Internet, then your ISP likely uses PPPoE to establish a connection to their network. The Wii is not compatible with PPPoE. Contact your ISP for more assistance.

What to do will depend on how you are connecting your Wii console. Please use the info below that describes how you are connecting.

    Connecting directly to a modem:

Will this work with Comcast broadband and Windows 7?

This modem will work with Comcast High Speed Internet.
You will have to contact Motorola for drivers for the Windows 7.

It does matter how fast your internet speed is,anything faster than 20meg,will need a Docsis 3.0 modem.

Got Motorola SB5101u cable modem get ip address and works with xp/pro, but can't get vista computer to get IP address even though have configured for automatic ip / dns. Tried everything I could think of

Obviously make sure its set to automatic IP/dns. If thats not working you need to do this

Click on Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Right click on command prompt and hit run as administrator.

In Dos prompts type these commands in EXACTLY AS WRITTEN.

netsh i i r r
netsh firewall reset
netsh winsock reset

Also, if you have anti virus like norton or trend micro or mcafee or webroot, you *NEED* to disable their firewalls and possible the entire program.

Some isp's for some reason make it impossible for Vista machines to pull ip addresses dynamically because of a flaw in windows vista. If this continues, i would contact your ISP and request a motorola surfboard 900 series modem, or a cable modem that is in route mode (NOT bridged, as bridged modems will pull a public ip address)

I recently purchase comcast internet and cable. I have a motorola surfboard SB5101U cable modem and when I try 2 connect my xbox to xboxlive, it says that my network doesn't have a sufficient MTU setting....

You actually should call comcast and tell them about the issue, They have a backdoor into your modem that they can troubleshoot it for you. The issue with their modems is they are usually locked with some weird password they use.

Usually with a modem or router you can dial an internal page but there system like Time Warner is set to their needs so that they can keep that back-door open.

Comcast phone number is 1-800-266-2278 or 1-800-Comcast same numbers thats just the way they word it on their site.

How to get it online with a ps3? I hooked it up to the ps3 with the Ethernet cable. It says connection failed .but it wont go online. Any help would be dearly needed. Thanks

First test the Internet connection by connecting a LAN cable from your DSL or cable modem to your computer and see if you can get into the Internet.
If you can't access the Internet then phone your ISP and get them to test your connection to your modem.
If the Internet connection is OK then click on this WEB site and follow the instruction to configure the PS3 :-
