Hi,

The manual is located here, and it recommends the following procedure, which starts on page 18.

Connect the Jetdirect box to the printer and the network and power on.
Press the Test button on the back of the Jetdirect box to print a configuration page.

The configuration page should show the IP address of the Jetdirect box.

If this is an IP address in the normal range of your network, ie the first three numbers of the Jetdirect box's IP address and your computer's IP address is the same (such as 192.168.0.) then simply type the IP address into your computers internet browser and you can reach the configuration page. The steps on page 58 detail the user interface for the web login.

If the Jetdirect box does not get an IP address withing 2 minutes of it booting up, it assigns itself an IP address of 192.0.0.192, and you can connect to it over the network if you change your own network settings to 192.0.0. and a number from 1-254 (but not 192).

How do I set up an HP JetDirect 170X Print Server with Windows 8.1 Operating System?

Connect the printer to the print server. Push the test button on the test button on the print server. Two pages will print. One of the pages will contain the IP address for the print server. Connect the print server to the router. Now you need to go to the Control Panel and select "Devices and Printers". Select "Add a Printer". When it searches for a printer, select "The printer I want isn't listed". Next, select "Add a printer using TCP/IP address or hostname" and click "Next". Now, enter the IP address from the test print and click next. That will do it.

How do i configure my jetdirect 170x

What OS are you using? I had a problem getting the print server to work with Windows 8.1. This is what I found to work: Find the IP address for the printer/server by pushing the "test" button on the print server. "Add a printer" in "Devices and Printers" under Control Panel. Select " The printer that I want wasn't listed", then select "Add a printer using TCP/IP address or hostname". Enter the IP address in the next window and carry on.
I hope this helps. If this is not your problem, you'll need to provide more details about what it is that you need from the print server.

I'm pretty good at most computer stuff, but I'm stumped. I'm trying to connect an HPlaserjet5/5m to an HP 170X Print Server on a 16 port dlink switch. I cannot get the hp setup.exe to work off the...

I am not sure if you need the setup.exe file to configure the JetDirect 170x.If you take a look the manual for the JetDirect 170x (http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00758101/c00758101.pdf) it mentions that this is a "Test" button on the back of the print server. If you press that button when the printer is connect, then it should print out a configuration page. The configuration page will have an IP address that you can browse to with Internet Explorer to configure the JetDirect.

Configure tcp ip hp 750c

Assuming the JetDirect card is installed and properly functioning, use the following. Also, you may have to update the rom on the I/O Card to the latest version.

  1. From the front control panel message, Ready or Ready to Plot, press ENTER.
  2. Press the Up arrow key until I/O Setup appears, and then press ENTER.
  3. Press the Up arrow key until Modular appears, and then press ENTER.
  4. From the front control panel message, Cfg Network=No, press ENTER.
  5. Press the Up arrow key to change to Yes, and then press ENTER.
  6. Using the Arrow keys, scroll to Cfg TCP/IP=No appears, and then press ENTER.
  7. Scroll to Yes, and press ENTER.
  8. Press the Up arrow key until BootP=Yes appears, and press ENTER.
  9. Press the Up arrow key to change to No. Press ENTER (When using BootP or DHCP, keep the setting BOOTP = YES *. The BootP or DHCP server will configure the TCP/IP parameters on the HP Jetdirect. No other TCP/IP configuring is necessary.
  10. Press the UP arrow once to get to the IP byte section.
  11. To change the IP byte, proceed as follows:
    1. Press ENTER.
    2. Press the Up or Down arrow key to change the number.
    3. Press ENTER.
    4. Press the Up key to continue to IP Byte2=xxx.
    5. Press ENTER.
  12. Configure the remaining bytes of the IP address in the same manner. A valid IP address is required for proper operation.
  13. Configure the subnet mask bytes (SM), syslog server IP address (LG), default gateway (GW), and timeout (TIMEOUT) by pressing the ENTER and the Up or Down arrows in the same manner as above. The timeout parameter default is 90 seconds. Up to 3,600 seconds can be configured. If set to zero, the timeout feature of the HP Jetdirect print server is disabled; TCP/IP connections will remain open until closed by the server.
  14. Press PREVIOUS repeatedly, until the Ready to Plot or Ready message appears. Refer to the HP Jetdirect Network Interface Configuration Guide to configure the network operating system.
  15. Press the Up and Down arrow keys simultaneously to save the IP address on a 750/755 plotter. (A page should print and the IP addresses will be saved.)
