When I take still photos, immage becomes extremely bright and some times complete white. Like over-exposed. Sometimes pictures taken at night are ok. Video is also ok. Plz help.
If the photos are white for outdoor shots but ok indoors, if the indoor shots have bands across the photo in the LCD, if the video mode works fine, then its probably a faulty lens sensor, Canon say you might as well buy a new camera as the price to fix is the same as a new camera.
Unfortunately this seems to be the correct answer. After three yrs of happy using, I got the same problem. I tried out all the settings. Some of them decrease the brightness (like low contrast or Snow function) but are far from solving the problem. It's not about settings. I searched the net and found it a typical problem (not only) with these cameras :(

If the video is Ok but the photos are white, overexposed and with lines your "shutter"/"diaphragm" is blocked open.I opened my lens to check and a small ribbon cable that controls the shutter is cut (multiple bending when zooming in-out).Solution - change the lens, which is more expensive than buying a new camera.
