My Vtech IA5879 phine I installed a new battery and it has a battery icon in lower left corner of phone wiht and X thru it and charge light is flashing. It has been charging for a few hours. Is this normal.

Some vtech phones put a chip in their phones and will not take an aftermarket battery...either that or its the wrong one for the phone...ive worked for a battery store for 3 years

Sounds like battery is not accepting a charge. Take your mouse and "hover" over the battery icon in the lower right corner of your desktop and see if it says "charing". If not, you may need a new battery.
Hi. Blinking orange light on battery indicator means it's charging. To make sure, point your mouse to the battery icon on the Taskbar located on the lower right-hand corner of your screen...near the system time and speaker icons. It should say plugged in, charging. If you see "plugged in, not charging, then you need to call Dell Phone Support for additional help.
The red "charge" light comes on to indicate that the handset is inserted properly into the base. This is it's normal function. No further action is nessesary. :)
