There might be many reasons for this. However I always prefer to begin
by simple tiny things. Make sure that the router is advertising itself,
there something called SSID (service set identifier). The SSID
differentiates one WLAN from another, so all access points and all
devices attempting to connect to a specific WLAN must use the same
SSID. A device will not be permitted to join the BSS unless it can
provide the unique SSID.
to make the long story short , SSID is the method of knowing that there
is a wireless coverage in a certain area. sending SSID sometimes is
considered unsecure. Therefore you have an option of disabling SSID
broadcasting. Therefore I suggest to make sure that SSID broadcasting
is enabled on your wireless router and then sarch for your wireless
network.
One other thing make sure that your router is using a WI-FI technology
(802.11b, 802.11a or 802.11g) that is supported by the wireless Adapter
(Card) implemented on your laptop..
