Our Lexmark Prospect Pro205 has sufficient ink in the black cartridge. The error message says there is interference with the black ink cartridge. Black ink does not print, but color inks print.

Your cartridge may need to cleaned. On the printer operator panel, press Setup button -> Maintenance -> Deep Clean Printhead. Your printer will then print a test page forcing ink through the cartridge nozzles and clean them.
If that doesn't help, your printer probably needs to be updated. The firmware update, available at http://bit.ly/p205fw, will help fix print quality issues.

    If your printer is still having trouble recognizing your ink cartridge even after updating its firmware, it could be due to a faulty printhead. Please contact Lexmark Technical Support Center or visit Lexmark's website for additional assistance.

    Lexmark agents are prepared and able to help diagnose and resolve your issue. This may involve updating your printer firmware and/or replacing the printhead for your printer, at no charge to you, our customer. Installation is quick and easy for any customer to perform.

What ink do I buy for the Pro205?

The Lexmark Prospect Pro205 printer uses the 100 standard cartridges (black, cyan, magenta and yellow) which offers around 170 ISO Pages; and the 100XL high yield cartridges (black, cyan, magenta and yellow). These have a higher sticker price, but contain almost 3 times as much ink as their standard yield cousins. Lexmark prospect pro 205 not supported by this all in one

Please make sure you are inserting genuine Lexmark cartridges. Lexmark printers work best with original supplies. Lexmark does not recommend the use of refilled, re-manufactured or clone cartridges. You might not get the print quality you expect from the ink that is specially formulated by Lexmark.

Printhead is not supported by the all in one

A firmware update for the Lexmark Prospect Pro205 will help fix the printhead issue you are experiencing. Please follow the steps below on how to successfully update your printer:

  1. Open the printer cover and remove the printhead and tanks (if installed). Note: Carrier will come to the center automatically with this error message as the cover is opened. Remove the ink tanks > open the printhead latch and remove the printhead > close the printhead latch, close the printer cover and confirm the error message goes away from the operator panel.
  2. Proceed with the firmware update. Please visit the Lexmark website to download and install the Lexmark Pro200 Series Firmware Update.

After successfully updating your printer, open the printer cover > re-insert the printhead > close the printer cover. If no printhead error comes up, continue with normal installation steps for cartridges. If error comes up again, please contact Lexmark Technical Support Center for further assistance.

Lexmark prospect - can i print in black and white only when my colour cartridges are empty

The Lexmark Prospect Pro205 requires all the cartridges to have ink in them to continue printing even if your printing in "black and white" only.
