I have a 26" Ilo brand TV. For use with my computer the DVI works fine, but when I try to plug in my HDMI cable box or HDMI DVD player to the DVI outlet, the TV is not able to pick up a signal. Is this because it's the wrong type of DVI or something like that? If it helps, the computer is a G4 Powerbook, while the cable box is a Scientific Atlantic Explorer 8300HD and the DVD player is part of a Samsung HT-Q70 home theater system. Thanks for your help. when i hook my dvd player to my tv through the hdmi cable it doesnt pick up a signal and it will play the dvd for a second and then it goes to blu screen and the to the movie and it continues to repeat this cycle. i bought a new hdmi cable thing that was my problem and updated the software on my tv but it still does it what is wrong with my setup?
Are you using a HDMI to DVI cable or are you using a HDMI to DVI adapter? Sometimes, though not on all products you have to go into the menu and select which out put your using for each source and whats going through it. You might need to go into your dvd player menu and tell it not to try to run audio through the cable. That way it's not trying to force a signal through the cable that cant be accepted by the TV. That might possible solve your problem for the DVD player. Let me know if it works
Have a Great day
SOURCE: HDMI->DVI cable won't work
