I am using ubuntu 10.04.2 and epson lx 300+ printer. When i try to install i am not able to select device as parallel port #1. What should I do?

OS settings to change port ---------------------------------------Click Settings > Control Panel > Printers and Faxes > Select your installed printer and right click on it > select properties > Ports > change serial port to parallel (COMx to LPTx)

Select your OS and you should get a list of drivers

You can install a parallel port adapter on you computer.

Since you did not provide details of your computer I cannot advise you exactly what adapter you need, but you can select or ask the supplier the correct one for your computer.

The USB to parallel converter does not always work.

You should buy a Parallel port for your computer if you have can extra slot inside the machine. The cost for the parallel port is usually under $20.

First, you must install the driver of lx-300+. open control panel, printer n fax then find epson lx 300+. Don't forget to test what port that your lx-300+ support. LPT1. Then print test page...If your printer run... it's finish... you have succses instal the printer...

4. Add a printer
5. then Next
6. then Next
7. then Next
8. then Next
9. select Manufacturer name : Epson
10. select Printer name : Epson LX-300
11. Next
12. Windows will automatically install the driver for your Printer

This is XP's parallel port problem

try changing the settings:
find: Start Button, Control panel, System
Device Manager, then Ports !

Change the settings for LPT1 to enable
Detection of Legacy Plug and Play devices

This printer needs a parallel port only. And if youre using xp os just make add printer and it will just add this printer, driver is almost ready. If it ask for driver just insert the winxp installer cd.

Check your parallel port settings on the XP computer. Compare these setting with the settings on the computer where the printer works. If you are using serial port for printing, then check the serial port settings.
