TI-30XS won't show square roots

You've got two different issues here.

Square root of 39 IS the exact answer, as the result will be a surd (an irrational number with too many - or potentially infinite decimal places).

If you have been asked to round or show your answer to a number of decimal places then you use the answer toggle (the opposing arrows button above enter) to receive an approximation - a rounded answer (6.24 to two d.p. if you were to multiply these together you will see it is close to 39, but not EXACT, because it has been rounded already). You can also press the answer toggle again to see a longer decimal, but again this is rounded and not exact

How do I convert from decimals to fraction with my TI-30X IIS calculator? I need the step by step process

The following examples will demonstrate how to convert decimals into fractions using the TI-30Xa and TI-30Xa Solar. Please be aware that TI-30Xa Solar School Edition calculators do not have this functionality.

Example: Convert .25 to 1/4
- Input .25, press [2nd][<--] (says F<>D above it).

** F<>D means fraction to decimal, decimal to fraction.

Example: Convert 1.38 to 1_19/50

- Input 1.38, press [2nd][<--].

Example: Convert 9.75 to 9_3/4

- Input 9.75, press [2nd]{<--].

My calculator is returning an answer with a 7 for division

You need to set the number of decimal places to 1 or more.

• Press [2nd] [MODE] and scroll to FLOAT.
• Press the right arrow key until the number of decimal places needed is highlighted.
• Press the [ENTER] key.

For 2 decimal places, 2 should be highlighted. All answers will then be rounded to 2 decimal places.

• Press [2nd] [QUIT] to return to the home screen.

No decimal display on TI BA-II calculator

Your BA II PLUS stores numeric values internally to an accuracy of 13 digits. However, the numbers it displays depends on the number of decimal places to which you have it set (choice of 0–9 or floating decimal). To set the number of decimal places displayed to three: hit [2ND][FORMAT][3][ENTER]This setting also continues indefinitely (even though the calculator is turned off and on) until it is changed.
