Hello, welcome to FixYa.

I'll start by saying your post indicates it is a Whirlpool oven, however if you could post the complete model number I can speak directly about possible remedies instead of generalizing...

**Though it may not be necessary as I believe your disply may be set to Celsius (centigrade, like Canada and Europe) instead of Fahrenheit since 260C equals 500F thus it tops out at 260...most ovens will not exceed this temp unless in a self clean cycle.**

I suspect if you refer to your operator/owners manual it likely will instruct you how to change it back to display the temperature in Fahrenheit.

Thank you for choosing FixYa. I'll need to watch for your reply before moving forward.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

This means open/shorted oven temperature sensor and to solve this problem the sensor needs replacement. If you want to do it yourself and wan to be sure before replacing the sensor then you can test it with a voltmeter between 1080-1120ohms....if it reads more then or less then this then it needs replacement however, if the reading is around between 1080-1120ohms then it is the control board that needs replacement. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

Older whirlpool oven super capacity 465. tried to set bake and temp at 425 after preheat ove locked and went to self clean by itself shut down at breaker tried again and same result. the bake button r

You have a fault, if the contact breaker is tripping , that's something shorting like a element , or a fan motor. Basically you need someone with technical knowledge . ISOLATE THE OVEN FROM THE MAINS SUPPLY. Your going to need a tester, for continuity, inspect all heating elements, and fans visual and continuity tests on both , if no fault found move to the wiring and switches, test them , if any wiring showing signs of burning then a regulator problem may exist, replace damaged wiring after checking regulation, this job requires some considerable skill, and should not be under taken by a unqualified person.

Hope this is helpful

Whirlpool super capacity 465

Seems the thermostat is malfunctioning...thus when baking at 500..thats quite high...it keeps getting hotter past that point to where the oven thinks its in self cleaning mode. Also seems like the problem because when it cools down your allowed to use it again. There is no way to test it with an ohmmeter. Just remove and replace.

Whirlpool Accubake Super Capacity 465 gas range. Oven won't light

Some gas ranges may take 10 or so minutes to light.
Other than that you may have a defective glow bar ignitor.
If it glows and does not light the reistance in the ignitior has failed.

WHIRLPOOL SUPER CAPACITY 465 (ELECTRIC) MODEL RF366PXGQ - F3 E0

Same thing happened to me about 1 month ago... Did you get some kind of power outage or lightning strike??? I am pretty sure the stove part works but the oven doesn't right?!?! It might be 2 things.. Either the temperature sensor inside the oven doesn't work or it's the control board (where the clock is). I tried to chaned teh temp sensor but it did not work. I then changed the Control Board and oven works again...
