I got a universal remote for my sylvania flat screen tv. I was testing the "mode" on the remote and then the next thing I know my tv begins flashing colors red blue green white and I tried to turn it off but none of the buttons worked. I even unplugged my television and then plugged it back and it is still doing it. Please help me.

You will need book to set codes or search (google) for your uni remote codes for what device you are trying to work. The main thing to remember is to switch modes when wanting to work something. Like press tv mode button when using tv or dvd mode when dvd is being used, etc.

I dont know this model or how old it is. If it is an older set a universal magnavox or philips remote will work. You should find an older model remote in this case. If it is a newer tv you may use a newer magnavox or philips universal remote. If this is a flat screen, you will have to contact the manufacturer. You will be pleased to know now, that you are on the correct path.

Universal remotes never work good anyway. You will need the original remote anyway to work the different functions for the TV.

Several people in the on-line forums suggested inputting the brand search codes for Philips and Magnavox sets -- but it didn't work for me. Someone else suggested that Funai Corp (China) now makes some Sylvania sets, and their rep said that universal remotes don't work for their products. My Philips Universal Remote says to enter "0" for the brand search code, and that will instruct it search for all the codes installed in it. But there are approximately 300, so be very patient. And it didn't work for me anyway. . . but maybe it will for you.
