Your TV does not have a USB port so you cannot connect an external HDD and stream movies on to the TV. But you can buy a HDD based media player which has the necessary output sockets as well as all kinds of decoders built in to stream movies on to your TV.

The most compatible format for an external HDD would be FAT32. and most of the TV support a video file format called AVI ( Divx ) for movies and JPEG for photos.
I would still strongly advice you to get yourself a Media player like the one below.http://www.amazon.com/Micca-Slim-HD-Full... Just see the formats it supports and comes with its own remote and can read off pen drives and flash cards too

How do i use my sandisk 32gb/2.0/3.0 compatable?

To store data, movies, photos, music, etc and access it from a TV, Media Player or a PC.

In PC a you might need to format it, but other devices will do it automagically.

Panasonic manuals

Some TVs have usb port in the back, try connecting the external hard drive to it directly and then select the hard drive channel on the TV.

How to plug harddrive into USB and watch movies

What kind of hard drive do you have? If it doesn't have a USB end, then you need a special cable to do it. Depends on what kind of hard drive you have, SATA - USB or IDE - USB. And not all TV with USB slot supports movies through USB, some models supports only music/pictures. So make sure your TV supports movies through USB too.

I own a LG Plasma 42PQ2 tv and I want to watch movies from an external hard drive through the USB port but it does not show any movie files on the hard drive.

The USB port on the TV might not have enough power to power the external hard drive. Can you try putting a movie on a USB memory stick instead, and see if that works?

I have a 32 inch LED TV and i am wondering if i can use an external hard drive to watch movies through the USB port on the back.

Movies stored on a hard drive are not in a format that can be readily used by a TV. You need something to read the movie file, usually a laptop computer or a DVR of some type. Good luck.

How do i connect an external hard drive to my LG LCD Tv?

The LG's will support an external USB hard drive, but it seems the USB support was intended for thumb drives, so yuo need to do the following to get it working:
  1. the drive must be formatted FAT32 (like thumbdrives)
  2. keep the file names short
  3. keep the directory structure simple and as flat as possible
I have a 60GB laptop drive in a USB 2.0 enclosure drive working really nicely with good transfer rates. It takes it's power from the USB socket and is working fine.

Hope this helps.

Phillips 1TB HDD problem, playing movies hrough DVD player (USB)

My question would be are the movies in the right format. Just because they play on your computer does not mean they will play on you DVD.NTFS or FAT 32 would have no bearing on this. They are simply data per sector protocols and are related to magnetic storage devices. You may need the proper codec for you computer so it can make a DVD you player can play.
