I purchased a new dell computer with windows vista. My old dell 922 all in one printer is not working now. I try to print and a message pops up that "before you can print you need to select a printer." The printer was selected but it still will not print. I tried to "reinstall" the printer and an error message comes up that "unable to install printer, operation could not be completed." I had no problems with this printer on my old computer. I've googled the promblem and one lengthy explanation was to reinstall the driver, windows vista is the promblem etc... nothing has worked.

Hi, my name's Cody, and I'm a member of the Windows Vista Outreach team. We're always interested in helping folks with any questions or concerns they might have about Vista, so hopefully I can point you in the right direction towards solving this problem with your printer. I'm certainly no technician, but I hope I can be of some help, or at least point you in the right direction towards getting your printer working again!
A good place for you to start might be by looking at Microsoft's new Windows Vista Compatibility Center, which you can find at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/Default.aspx.
I did a search on your Dell printer there, and it says that the printer should be completely compatible with the 32-bit version of Windows Vista. They provided me with a link to the Dell website, which gives you step-by-step instructions on how to install the most up-to-date drivers. The link is a pretty long one, but here it is:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R151371&SystemID=PRN_ALL_A922&servicetag=&os=WLH&osl=en&deviceid=6785&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=1&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=40&fileid=201464
Hopefully, that will get you up and running again. Let me know if you make any progress, and if you still have problems, please let me know!
Thanks,
Cody

Right hear we go for windows 7
answering this question on fixya instead of dell com
because they will remove it .
first your looking for a post on dell community from rick the rock
star and how a vista driver will work
follow his instructions it is a pain but you can get it to work with
perseverance
the problem is even if you get it to work dell will stuff you again
stage 2
but another guy on ricks post has the solution
and it is this. create another user account once you have the vista driver installed on your com/lap
and it works but it is early days
my guess is this manufacturers of printers have agreement to get you to buy a new printer
by sticking a no new picture or vidi on this devise or computer can not communicate with printer
but looks like they can only cover one account
and if you get it to work this note is important i think
make sure you are back out of that account and into your normal one and leave it open when you shut down your computer /lap
ie just switch accounts ,and its probably a good idea to leave your printer permanently attached and switched on .
NOT probably IT IS
right i think that all the bases covered good luck and fingers crossed

I hav new HP processor with old dell aio printer. I have updated drivers and selected my printer as default. When I try to print, there is an error message stating to check my printer properties. I have checked properties but cannot identify the problem.
Purchased new computer kept dell 922 aio printer. Worked with Dell installed driver, now comes up with "incorrect port detected printer design to work with USB cables only. The current software setting is not set to USB port. Make sure using USB cable"
