I can't seem to get my 2 pc to share files

I had a 1000hg modem which went bad but, the loco network worked very good. I could no longer connect to the internet with the AT&T Tech replaced it with the 2wire modem 2701HG. Now my network doesn't seem to be working. I can only share file one way when I use to go in both directions. In other words only one computer can open and use file on the other computer but, not vice versa. 1. Computer is eithernet and the other one is 2. WiFI with a wireless card. the wireless can't see the eithernet computer but the eithernet computer can see a limited amouthe of files and folders.

Are the two computers in the same location? If so,use a USB connection instead.
If not, try a free online service on both computers, such as TeamViewer (TeamViewer.com). TeamViewer will let you view each computer, remote operate the computer/s, and transfer files. It is free for personal use.

Hey Capb, sounds like this "modem" is set up differently from the old one in that it is separating the wired and wireless network traffic. If you are a little technical, you might check the IP addresses of both devices and see if they are on the same networks segment.. like 192.168.1.100 and 192.168.1.101 or some such.

SOURCE: Lost Ethernet and Wireless Connections in Modem

I've not used one of these 2wire boxes before, but I believe the default router's address is 192.168.0.1. Try this instead of gateway.2wire.net to see if you can gain access to the router. This is just the starting point, but see if it works.

Here's a link to, what I believe is, the router's manual.

Before you rate this please let me try to help some more. This could be a multi step process...

SOURCE: port forwarding? 2wire 2701hg-T

access your gateway homepage by opening your internet browser and typing this on the address bar: 192.168.1.254/management. then key in your system password and click on Settings under Firewall. there's option#2 (allow individual applications), click on "Add a new-user defined application", input the data and click submit another way is to enable DMZ plus mode. that option would actually make all the ports open. use this if option#2 is not working. after making the above changes refresh your router, just unplug then replug it from the power.

SOURCE: 2wire xbox 360 wireless

My 2 wire is a home portal 1000 which doens't have wireless. So the easiest way to solve this is to get a wireless router and plug it into your 2 wire router (I did this) then connect the xbox 306 to that.

Hard reset the router and reflash or update the firmware.

If still wont work then it will be hardware problem (bad memory).

How do I do file transfers from one wireless laptop on a westell 6100 dsl model to another wireless laptop on the same modem. Neither laptop in connected to the modem via eithernet. how would I set this...

Hi There.. Please follow te below steps..

1) Connect your old computer to the wireless network. Nowadays most people use the internet through a wireless network. So basically, if you have wireless internet and you are able to get on the internet... that means you are connected.

2) Go into the networks settings. This is usually as simple as right clicking the network's icon and then clicking properties. What you want to do is turn on, "file and printer sharing" within the network

3) Now, go to the folders/data that you want to transfer. Right click or get into the properties of that folder. Check the box that says "share this folder with network".

4) On the new computer, connect to the wireless network. Under control panel or possibly the start menu, there should be an option for "My Network Places" or "My Network". In this folder you should find the data that you chose to share from your old computer. You can simply copy/paste or drag/drop the files to your new computer.

Now you are offset to transfer the files from one laptop to another...

You have to configure Internet Connections Sharing on the PC which has a dial-up service.
1. Click Start - Settings - Control Panel - Network Connections, right click on dial-up.
2. Clik on Properties, click on Advanced tab.
3. Under Internet Connection Sharing, select the Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection check box

After that you must connect the other pc to this one via network cable.
If you don'y have network adapters you have to buy them.

File Sharing

Hi,

Here’s a very short summary of how to create a home network:

1) Create a named Workgroup (computer network name).
In Windows, the defaults are MSHOME or WORKGROUP, but you can choose your own

2) Add computers to the named Workgroup

3) Enable file and/or printer sharing.

Here are some resources to help you:

1. Windows XP has a wizard to walk you through it - see tutorial here

2. For Vista, try this link for a detailed overview: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb727037.aspx

These links might help too:
http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/how-to-create-a-pc-network-workgroup.html

http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/connect-to-and-share-files-with-other-pcs-on-your-.html

3. When it comes to sharing folders, there are two main ways to do this. You can either 1) right click the folder and enable sharing through the shortcut menu., or 2) add the file/folder to ‘Shared Documents’ (for XP) or ‘Public Folder’ (for Vista).

Hope this helps, but please come back to Fixya if you have any difficulties. Good luck!

D-link cant accesed internet 4pc

Most of DSL modems are connected to PC with USB cable...
n if ur server is connected with other pc on lan .. you can use internet sharing option available in winxp.

Following are the steps to enable Internetsharing for other pcs.

How to use Internet Connection Sharing loadTOCNode(2, 'summary'); To use Internet Connection Sharing to share your Internet connection, the host computer must have one network adapter that is configured to connect to the internal network, and one network adapter or modem that is configured to connect to the Internet.

On the host computer loadTOCNode(3, 'summary'); On the host computer, follow these steps to share the Internet connection:
  1. Log on to the host computer as Administrator or as Owner.
  2. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  3. Click Network and Internet Connections.
  4. Click Network Connections.
  5. Right-click the connection that you use to connect to the Internet. For example, if you connect to the Internet by using a modem, right-click the connection that you want under Dial-up.
  6. Click Properties.
  7. Click the Advanced tab.
  8. Under Internet Connection Sharing, select the Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection check box.
  9. If you are sharing a dial-up Internet connection, select the Establish a dial-up connection whenever a computer on my network attempts to access the Internet check box if you want to permit your computer to automatically connect to the Internet.
  10. Click OK. You receive the following message: When Internet Connection Sharing is enabled, your LAN adapter will be set to use IP
address 192.168.0.1. Your computer may lose connectivity with other computers on
your network. If these other computers have static IP addresses, it is a good idea to set them
to obtain their IP addresses automatically. Are you sure you want to enable Internet
    Connection Sharing?
  11. Click Yes.
The connection to the Internet is shared to other computers on the local area network (LAN). The network adapter that is connected to the LAN is configured with a static IP address of 192.168.0.1 and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0

let me know if it helps.

best regards,
