I was using my olympus XD picture card about 2 weeks ago in my camera to take photos of a birthday party. There is ALOT of precious photos on the card. I left the card for awhile without uploading the photos because I couldn't find a card reader. But I found one today, so i tried to upload the photos, but it wasn't showing up... So I uploaded the photos off of my other XD card which worked fine. and then I tried again, still it didn't show up. Then I put the card into my camera, and it can up with 'card error' I have no idea what it means, and why it happened. But is there any way to retrieve the photos off the card? Because i don't care if the card doesn't work again, but the photos mean alot to me. thanks

If you do not own a media card reader for your PC go and buy one so that you can plug your XD card directly into your computer. Then download this software.

You will then have an idea if you will be able to recover the pictures from your card. Your other option is to pay a data recovery company which could run you hundreds of dollars.

Hi! can i use xD 2GB TYPE M+ CARD WITH OLYMPUS STYLUS 300 DIGITAL?

  • The Olympus Stylus 300 camera works with xD-Picture cards, including the 2GB Type M+ card. But it's important to make sure the camera can use that particular type and size of xD card by checking the camera's specifications and list of compatible devices.

Mju 400 slow down with 2GB xD-PicCard?!?!

It's possible that your camera, being 7 years old, was never designed for a 2gb card. You can find cards of all sizes at amazon.com

After taking about 15-20 pictures our camera shows card error message. We download the pics onto our computer and reformat as the camera says to do...but should the camera hold more pictures than that?

Hello,

It sounds like the card is damaged, it should take a lot more photos than that.

The C-50 takes an XD memory card. These are different sizes. For example a 256mb size will take hundreds of photographs.

The C-50 is quite old and there are now different types of XD cards. It might be best to get a 128mb XD card.

The Olympus website says:
---
Please contact Olympus authorized distributor or service center in your region for the information about
using xD-Picture Card 512MB, 1GB or 2GB
---
I hope this helps.

Photos stored in one photo file. How do I extract them?

Recovering xD data is always tricky as the specifications have never been publicly available, it's only during the last couple of years that reverse-engineering has produced software able to do so.

I've found that there are plenty of recovery tools which can recover the raw data but very few which can actually make sense of it. I'd suggest that you first see if there's a money back option on CardRecovery and then try a free trial of Acute Tools PhotoNose ( http://www.acutetools.com/photonose/xd-card-recovery.aspx ). I haven't had the chance to try it for myself yet but I've heard from a couple of friends that it does work. F Recovery xD has also been recommended to me but again I have yet to try it for myself. ( http://www.filerecoverytools.com/products/fr_xd-picture/ )

What is certain at the present time is that there are no reliable free xD recovery tools, so whatever else you buy ensure that it either has a free trial or a money back option.

I hope that you have found my posting to be useful and ask in return only that you remember to rate my answer.

Olympus xd card formatting problems.

If you like the camera and XD cards then I would use the USB cable to download the photos from the camera. When you plug the USB cale into the camera and then into the computer, the computer should recognize the camera and set it up as another disk drive. Copy or move the pictures from the card to your Photo location. Use the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the system tray to disconnect the camera and your done. The camera can format the XD card and the computer can read it through the camera.

Recover deleted photos

I have had success with this... Download Asoftech photo recovery program
http://www.asoftech.com/apr/

You have to use a card reader either on your computer or an external USB card reader. Put the card in the card reader, open the recovery program, then select the drive where files are deleted, then press "Start" and wait for it to do it's magic.

Panoramic Pictures

If I remember my last Olympus camera it would only work in Panorama mode with an official Olympus memory card. No third party cards would enable that feature. My instructions read "An Olympus xD-Picture Card is required for panorama shooting." If you are using an official Olympus xD-Picture card, there may be a problem with your camera.

XD-Picture Cards

Yes, third-party brand xD Picture Cards can be used to record images. Please note that an Olympus brand xD card is necessary to use the Panorama function on the camera.
