Good day. We have a Napoleon fireplace Model GD40-P which is approx. 12 yrs old and used very rarely. I turned it on this time to warm up the house and it worked perfectly for approx. 1/2 hour: then all the flame went out but the pilot light is still on. The fire will not "spread " to the surrounding piping in the fireplace. no amount of attempts at re-lighting seems to work even though the pilot light is still on. Do you have any idea what might be causing this? Thank you.

SOURCE: fireplace clicks and shuts off when running

There are a few things that could be causing this problem. The most common resolution to this problem is making sure the thermo couple is screwed tight into the valve. While looking at the gas control valve, you'll see a few wires and small metal tubes going into it. The one you want to tighten is the tube that is copper. Even if you get only a half a turn on the little brass fitting that's holding it screwed in, that's usually enough. If that doesn't do the trick let me know and I'll get back to you with some other things to try.

SOURCE: I installed a Napoleon Gas fireplace model BGD33NG

Make sure the pilot is turned to the ON position, otherwise you might have a broken thermopile which will need to be replaced as it controls the burner.

Installed Napoleon IR3 gas insert. Worked find the first 10-12 time on. Now on start-up it makes a VERY loud noise (kind of like a train). After about 10 minutes, the noise just stops. Any ideas?

Yes, it sounds like you have a gas pressure problem. You will need a manometer or a water inch Gage might work. Check the inlet pressure and compare it to the ratings on your fp nameplate. If it is low on the inlet side when it's making this noise you either have a restriction in your gas line, usually water from a leak, or your regulator from the gas company is not set properly. In the lattercase call them and inform them of your trouble.

Contact Napoleon at 1-(800) 461-5581 and ask for a AUTHORIZED servicing distributor in your area. You can also go to www.napoleon.com, put in your zip code, and it will tell you who is and isn't an authorized SERVICING DISTRIBUTOR for your fireplace. I hope this helps.

Napoleon Fireplace won't fire

I would suggest calling Napoleon at 1-(800) 461-5581 and find an AUTHORIZED SERVICING DEALER in your area to diagnose the problem. You can also go to www.napoleon.com, put in your zip code, and it will pull up who is and isn't an authorized dealer in your area.
The company I work for has been in the fireplace business for over 35 years. Napoleon is one of the brands that we have access to. The BGD36CFG is not a simple unit to diagnose. If you can not find a servicing dealer in your area I would call a licensed HVAC but always default to calling Napoleon first. There is no telling why the fireplace will not ignite. Below is the

Gas fireplace will not light up

If it has a pilot light, (website says it does) I suspect its the thermocouple. These are easy to change yourself and cheap, you can buy a universal thermocouple and it will be cheaper than a Napolean one. The end of the thermocouple is a fat copper pin that sits poking into a small pilot flame. The heat of the flame on the copper tells the system that the gas is burning ok so it allows more gas through. But after a few years the copper end gets covered in black charring and this slightly insulates it from the heat, so it signals to turn off the gas.

I have a napoleon wood fireplace, I just installed it in a fireplace. It seems like I can't get any heat out of it. I installed a cheminee liner up the cheminee. I think that the heatloss is going up the...

an open fireplace is not going to heat your house only 5 feet in front of the fire place. 75% of the heat goes out your chimney and burns the wood very fast. sorry to say but if you are looking for heat you installed the wrong unit!
