Sounds like your cable has stretched a bit and now the tension is off. There is a barrel adjuster where the cable comes into the rear derailleur. Turning this barrel too the right will increase the slack and turning it too the left will take up some slack.

Shift your gears to the middle of the cassette, then try turning the barrel 1/4 turn to the left, shift and see if it shifts into gear, if not shift back and adjust the tension again. Keep repeating till the gears line up.

if this does not work then it's time to take into a bike shop.

How to adjust gears on schwinn ranger 2.6 mountain bike

There is a good tutorial with photos here, How to Adjust Rear Bicycle Derailleur
most bikes are pretty similar, and there are a few vids on youtube you can search out. It's much easier to look at the tutorial than describe here, after all they've already done all the hard work!

How do I get the gears to work again on my Schwinn Mesa GSX Mountain Bike?

The shift cable is likely too loose, but there are multiple items to tighten, lubricate and adjust on just the derailleurs, let alone the rest of the bike, before it's safe and ready to ride. I would suggest you get some assistance from a more knowledgeable friend, a bike co-op or a bike shop.

THE REAR DERAILIER HAS 2 SMALL SCREWS. UNSCREW ONE OF THEM MORE.THIS SHOULD ALLOW THE DERAILIER TO MOVE OVER MORE

Have a trex 7.2 it is new shifts great but when I shift from 5th to 6th it starts to slip a little but when I go to 7th gear it is not useable . slips so bad . This is the second fx 2 , the first one did...

This is a matter of adjustment so the shop shoudl be able to fix this for you. Cable will always stretch on a new bike so these issues usually arise after a few rides. A good shop should tell you this when you buy the bike and have you come back for some adjustment at a later date.

My bike has 21 gears the new wheel only has 18 gears w ill the bike work

yes it will. You will have to adjust the gear shift cable so that it doesn't go past the 6th gear on the wheel (as you would've had a 7th gear) otherwise your chain will constantly slip off the wheel and jam up
