I have an amana ASD2626hes side by side refer/freezer unti. REcently it soppted colling in the refer and the freezer was cold on the bottom only - top warm. I pulled the freezer inside coer - found the evap coil to be cold but evap fan not running at all. Looks like this evap fan unti ius reposnible for circulating cold air in both freezer and refer. I assumne that eithiut it - no cold air getst o refer. What is the most common problem here? Is it the evap fan motor itself or swiches/thermostats or control module somwhere not telling it to "turn on"? - thanks.

usually when the bottomof the freezer is cold and the top isn't it's the evap fan motor isn't working and all the cold air sits at the bottom.when you open the freezer door you should hear the fan running inside the freezer,also tried to look up your model but it didn't come up.open the fridge door,look up on the right and hear the cieling and you'll see a tag with the model and serial numbers,i just need the model number and i can help you better

Your heating element in the freezer is most likely the culprit. You will need to replace it (probably less than $50)

You may have an obstruction in the air vent from the freezer compartment to the frig .there should be an airflow adjustment next to the thermostat. Middle setting is recommended. Since you say the freezer is working properly, I cannot see any other possibility. hope this helps.

you may have a defrost problem or damper problem

yes the evap fan in the frezer should be running when the compressor is running[it may not for a minute or so as it starts up.Amana's are good for the connectors at the evap fan motor comming apart.the connectors are white and will look like its together but when you pull it will come apart.i would always cut the connector out and use a wire nut so wont happen again.if any other questions please email thru FixYa and i will be glad to help. UNPLUG THE FRIDGE FOR 5-8 HOURS LET COILS UNFROST/CHECK TO SEE IF YOUR FAN IS RUNNING.

Thre is a fan inside the freezer which circulates the cold air around both the fridge and the freezer compartments.
You should be able to feel cold air blowing around the inside, particularly at the top of the freezer.
If the defrost thermostat fails open, the internal fan (depending on freezer) will stop and this can be the cause of the freezer being warm at the top and no ice.
You say the bottom of the freezer is blowing cold, but are you sure its blowing, as it can feel like a cold blow. Of course the fan could have failed or may be the defrost heater itself.

Have you ever cleaned the condenser coil in the back or under the bottom of the refrigerator. Dirty coil will cause this problem, also make sure the little fan motor in the back is working if it stops you can get the same condition. If not these two conditions you may be starting to have a refrigerant problem.
The unit gets low on refrigerant and just dosen't cool properly.
