Replacing the drum baffle in kenmore elite he3t front loading washers

I'm planning to have the drum baffle kit shipped to me, but before completing the purchase I wanted to verify if the entire drum needs to be removed to install the new baffle (or agitator). Is this a simple repair of sliding the baffle in place and securing it with a nut and bolt, or a more complex repair with removing the drum and other parts to complete the repair correctly. Thanks

I just gave the answer above, then found these instructions on another site:

    1. Remove the top cover of the washing machine.

    2. Disconnect the Vent Hose from the top of the outer tub assembly.

    3. Rotate the inner basket until the baffle lines up below the Vent
Hose openning ... and there it will be, the screw to remove the baffle.

I have the same problem and cannot find a manual to show proper installation. Can someone help?

The instructions were fine, thank you. Clever how removing the hose provides access to the screw holes - good engineering.

One thing - none of my baffles had screws in them, and the replacement part didn't come with a screw. The baffle does snap into place. I'll give it a try without the screws for now.

I just replaced one drum baffle, and though I had to struggle to slide the baffle into place, it went and I put in the screw.

But I fumbled one screw and it went down between the inner & outer drums!  Now my machine makes noise on spin and I'm afraid the screw will chew something up.

How do I go about getting it out (which looks like much more major surgery)?

The baffle basket, I ordered from sears for my Kenmore Elite he3t washer was a "new" design but the screw holes lined up. My baffle basket did not come with the screw either. I took out the screw from an existing baffle basket and found something close. Test it in the baffle basket before you try to install it. Be careful not to drop the screw or bit.

To replace the baffle basket. Remove top of washer using a screwdriver with a T20 torque bit. There are three screws at the rear. The top slides back about an inch and lift up. Place aside. Then you will see a hose going into the drum. Ignore the clamp, just squeeze the end going into the drum and work it out. Now you need to insert the baffle basket in the drum through the front door. It is easiest to rotate the drum so you are inserting it on the bottom. It slides in with the small end toward you and you must pull it forward. Hold the drum for leverage. Now rotate the drum so the new baffle is on top. You need to line up the screw hole and screw in a small screw. Replace the hose and top of washer.

Good Luck...

Note: That hose is a little tricky. I had to replace my third baffle and I noticed that the hose had "worn" out. I must have pushed it in too far the last time. I ordered a replacement hose, too.

Avjudge has a great solution. I used a pry bar or wonder bar to slide the baffle into place. I couldn't get enough leverage to snap it into place. I purchased some stainless steel screws from a local hardware store to secure the baffles. Our HE3 washer didn't have any screws securing the baffles to the drum. Surprise! Surprise!

Also - carlralexand has great advice as well. It really works. It was quite simple. Thanks for the advice about being careful with the screws.

I didn't need an addtional problem.

I bought the baffles locally and see there is a screw that goes through the drum. This tells me I'm going to have to get at the other side of the drum. I've ordered a manual from repairclinic dot com and saw somewhere on the web that this manual describes the process.

I have a Kenmore Elite Quiet Pak 2 He 3 and it is very loud when spinning. It sounds like the drum might be out of place. I went to spin the drum with my hand and it's ok until a certain point and it...

Okay the bad news is most likely the bearings in the back of the front load drum are damaged and there may even be some cracking in the back this is causing it not to spin properly it will not be able to work for much longer and if you would need a major repair to fix many cases it is not worth fixing front loader because the average repair cost is around $400 you might want to get it looked at by an appliance professional but most expensive see the links below for more information Replacing the bearings on Kenmore HE3t front load washer Part 1 By How to...

We experienced the same thing. I was able to restart and locate the noise to the water pump. After disassembling the water pump found the impeller shaft sliding out. For some reason this shaft will not stay in place. Had to order a complete pump assembly as the electric motor is not available.

Kenmore Elite Washer (He3t) front load

The bearing in the duet is attached to the outer rear tub of the washer. You have to remove the whole rear half of the outer tub. Take off the back and you will see all the screws around the tub where they attach together. you have to buy the whole rear half too. They wont let you replace just the bearings.

Front Door Seal/Baffle Replacement

I need to replace a baffle from inside my Elite HE3T. Do you have directions? Only 1 came off but when I order the new one apparently it only comes in 3, so show I replace the other 2 as well? (if I can figure out how)

Of course the part did not come with any! And Sears customer service is of no help and the technical people have not responded to me.
Thanks,

Tub seal has rip therefore washer is leaking.

Its pretty comlicated requires dissasembly of the front of the washer. A good tech can do in 1 hour. You may want to pay for it rather than spending all day and possibly damaging something. Let me know if you need further assistance.
