Hand Icon I just bought the Canon SD850 IS & am familiarizing myself with it. (or trying to) As soon as I inserted the memory card an icon showed up at the bottom of the LCD. It looks like a hand in the "stop" or "halt" postion. It stays there even when all of the other data on the screen is turned off. I cannot find an explanation for it in either owner's manual. Can you plese tell me what it means?

Not only do I have the same hand icon problem, but my display is black other than the icons, menu, etc. The flash is set to auto. Pushing the disp button does not work; it only beeps. The indicator lights never flash when you turn it on. When I take a picture it turns out as black as the display when viewed on the computer. It's new out the box!

I also have the hand icon problem and I have had this camera for 6 months without this problem. Darntoothysa is wrong about the light factor. I tried to take a picture in normal daytime sunlight and even that does not work. I also changed memory cards but the hand persists. Nothing about it in the owners' manual. Help!?!

Hi

It means there it not enough light to take a picture without it being blurry and you should switch the flash on. Try setting the flash to Auto and you should be fine.

Happy shooting from Darntoothysam com (an affordable digital camera repair business)

How do you scan with pixmamx420 or there is problem?

Hi
There are many different ways to scan using this machine, direct to the computer, to a USB memory stick or memory card inserted in the printer itself, etc etc, I give below a link to the on-screen manual in case you don't have it;
Canon PIXMA MX420

Just click on the download button, the accept & download". Once downloaded double click on the file and the on-screen manual will be installed and accessible from an icon on your desktop. Double click the icon and the left hand pane has an index, go to scanning and you will see all the different methods for scanning with this machine.
Hope this is helpful, if so would you please register that with Fixya

No Memory Card error

Check to see the largest capacity card that the camera will accept - if you are trying to use cards larger than this, I would expect this error.

Memory card full - want to erase it

Got to website: http://www.retrevo.com, and select Digital cameras, Manuals and then pick manual for Canon Powershot SD850.

Down load the manual free. Page 105 in the manual explains how to erase your pictures from memory card. Hope this will be helpful.

I AM USING POWER SHOT DIGITAL CAMERA 580 CANON, when i insert new 1 gb memory card in the camera, the camera lcd shows that " MEMORY CARD FULL" how is it possible ?

You could try formatting it by using the camera's menus, or in My Computer on PC by right clicking on its icon to bring down the option, then format again in the camera to ensure compatibility

M2 memory card is not getting formatted!!!

Hi,

Start by inserting the memory card into your computer, right click on it and click on "Properties". Click on the "Tools" tab and click "Check Now" this should repair errors on the memory Card. Try using the Memory Card to see if the problem still persist.

If it does then right click on the Memory Card Icon found on your "My computer" icon and run a virus scan. The antivirus scan would clean files that are infected. Hope you have a good antivirus for this purpose. Once it's completed you can check to see if the problem still persists.

Finally if it does then I'll advice that you format the memory card, although this means that you would loose all the data you have stored up on the memory stick. Format and try using it.

This should solve your problem, if it persist then you'll have to change the memory stick.

Good luck.

Canon SD850 IS showing "unidentified image" after pic is taken

we have just experienced both of the above problems. We are using 2G SD card from Kingston. After about 400 pictures set to mdeium resolution we get many pictures with the ? mark unidentified image. I see that each image takes up about 2M of space but the image information is not stored so you can not open the file. Also other images have the shaded problem as above.

does anyone have any ideas about this. Is it the camera or the SD memory? We just bought the camera about 3 weeks ago and are now thinking of returning it
