This model Maytag is actually manufactured by Whirlpool. To access the lid switch on this particular model, all you should have to do is remove the operator console. The console has a retaining clip on each side holding it to the cabinet top. To release these clips, simply take a putty knife and slide it under the left and right front corners of the control panel push straight in towards the back of the washer. The clips will depress, allowing the operator console to be lifted up. The lid switch is mounted next to the left lid hinge. Refer to the "Top and Cabinet" parts illustration, Item 6 at searspartsdirect.com:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Maytag-Parts/Washer-Parts/Model-MVWC400VW1/3048/0153200?pathTaken=&prst=0&shdMod=MVWC400VW1

Some other websites you may refer to for parts include:

pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

NOTE: If you model number does not cross reference to these sites, use the part numbers fromthe Sears websites as your search criteria. Often, the model numbers may not be included on some websites (newly added models), but the part numbers will.

HINT: In some cases, what may appear to be a bad lid switch, may only be an actuator adjustment. The acutator on these models is the rod attached to the left lid hinge. You can bend the rod slightly to adjust the contact with the lid switch, or it may be tightened as necessary. If the switch toggles (clicks) by hand with the actuator rod removed, the switch typically is not bad.

If you need to remove the entire cabinet to access under the lid, the following link explains how:

It definitely could be a clogged or bad pump. However, it's always a good idea to check for error codes before replacing a part...Especially expensive ones...

I have a Maytag Centennial MVWC6ESWW1 and need to know how to lift off the top cover to get to the lid switch?

There are two hinges at the back, just remove two screws on top then push the top toward the front about 1'' or 1.5'' then lift it up.

I have a maytag centennial washer MVWC400XWO it is 3 years old. The washer has stopped after the initial wash cycle leaving the cloths wet in a tub full of water. The washer will not go to the spin/drain...

For saftey the lid lock and lid down switch must be activated before the machine can advance to the next cycle. This has been the sequence for all top loaders..

Check the switch for the lid it is likely defective.

Make sure that the power is removed.

Simple repair by a qualified technician.

Hope this helps?

Want to disengage lid lock on maytag centennial

I had the same problem. The lid lock assembly is broken. If you are under warranty get it replaced. If not remove the top of the washer and take out the switch assembly. The 4 wires going in are Yellow, Red, White, and Blue. If you short the white and blue together, the washer thinks the lid is closed. If you short the red white and blue together the washer thinks the lid is closed and locked. The yellow is only there to activate the electromagnetic switch.
Disconnecting the switch assembly will not work.
The electromagnet locks the lid and it also unlocks the lid. It is not a matter of cutting the power to the magnet.
Installing 2 switches that connect the red white and blue is the best option if you want to remove the lock.
The first switch should connect the white and blue. (LID CLOSED)
The second should connect the red to the white/blue connection. (LID LOCKED)
After that the lid should work.
Please post a follow-up if this works for you.
GOOD LUCK
