Most programs designed for Windows XP will run properly in Windows Vista or Windows 7;
occasionally, you will find one that will not. If you're unable to get a program to operate
normally in Windows 7, try running it in Compatibility Mode.
Perform these steps to setup an application
for Compatibility Mode:
Right-click on the program's shortcut or icon on the disk
click "Properties".
Click the "Compatibility" tab.
Check the box titled "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and select from the
list the version of Windows the program was designed to work with. If you don't know
what Windows version, select "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)"; you can always change it,
if the program does not run with that setting.
Click "OK."
Try running the program again. If you're still unable to use the program, select a different
mode and click other options on the Compatibility tab - i.e., make one change to
a setting, try running the program, make another change, etc., until it runs correctly).
Also, you can run the Program Compatibility
Wizard within Windows Help.
Hope that helps you....
If the compatibility troubleshooter is failing, it most likely means that that program is not compatible with Windows 7.
You can try to set the compatibility settings manually and try that.
Right click on the program and go to to properties.
In the Properties window, select the compatibility tab.
Check the box next to Run this program in compatibility mode for:
In the drop down box select the Operating System (previous version of windows) that it it was last known to work on.
(Most likely Windows XP service pack 3)
Click APPLY
Good luck!
This may help. Depending on your version of windows 7 you may be able to run Windows XP as a virtual machine and still user your scanner under XP Mode. You will have to install the XP driver for your scanner on the XP virtual machine running on your Windows 7 computer.
Windows 7 has several built-in tools to help with program compatibility and Windows XP programs should be installed directly on Windows 7.
Windows XP Mode runs many older Windows XP productivity programs
and that are not natively compatible with Windows 7, thus helping
realize cost savings and reduce possible operational downtime by
extending the life of existing software.
