Freezer not cold but fridge is cool

I have a side by side model number ED22RFXFW01 1999 refrigerator. The freezer started defrosting today and everything melted. The refridgerator still feels cool. I turned the freezer and fridge to its coldest settings and the freezer is cool-ish, but not freezing. The motor is still running. We bought this house, with the fridge, 3 years ago and have had no problems until now. We do NOT have any paperwork on it, so I don't know where to begin. ANY suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Roper by Whirlpool RS25AFXMQ00 07/03 - I opened the freezer this morning and things are defrosting. The refrigerator appears to be working fine.

Quickest and cheapest way is to switch the unit off overnight. possibly missed a proper defrost cycle and evap.coil is blocked. when properly defrosted,switch on and you could be back on line

Its defrost problem.--------- When you open the freezer door, then ice starts getting defrosted, because outside temperature is warm and due to that inside ice gets bit melted.--------- -------------- The working procedure of this unit is as follows: --- The compressor starts then it cools the freezer section. When the freezer reaches its cooling level the defrost cycle starts functioning. In this cycle the fan in the freezer section starts running and the cool air in the freezer section is passed to the fridge section and the fridge section gets cold.
