I think you have already discovered that the outlet is not at fault. So, now you have to troubleshoot the electrical parts of the grill and their wiring. Most of this you can do with a visual inspection, looking for frayed wires, incomplete connections or bare wire(s) touching the metal framing of the grill and even a circuit that is wire incorrectly.
In case you have misplaced your Owners Manual (which has a wiring diagram) have included a link to it that you can download and print for future reference. Hope this helps you to further troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know.

Glad I could help you and thanks for the 4-Thumbs Up Rating.
Gfi outlets monitors imbalance loads between the neutral and line (black and white wires). so a line to ground short will not cause the gfi to trip. GFI outlets are not designed to supply motor loads such as with a treager. I use an extension cord to run the treager from a non GFI outlet when things go wacky with the GFI until shut down. Then the next start should work correctly until it trips again.

This is likely an issue with the hot rod on your grille. These are known to go bad. Easiest way to diagnose this is to unplug the hot rod wiring (Purple/White wires to plastic plug), then start the grille again. If it doesn't trip the GFI, the hot rod is bad. Order your replacement for $27 bucks, install it, and be on your way to more cookin'.
Ok so no arching on mine. But as an electrician I work with GFI's quite a lot and find that GFI outlets are not intended to supply motor loads such as with the Traeger. GFI's work by monitoring the imbalance loads of the neutral (white) and the line (black) wires. Motors tend to cause wacky things to happen to GFI's at different times. I have to supply power to mine from a non-GFI outlet once the tripping starts and after the shut down I can run the Traeger for a while again until it trips and the cycle starts over again. Hope this helps.
I had the same problem and found that one of the connections under the hopper was arcing. It was one of the connectors for the purple and white wires. It was black in the plastic connector. I took it apart, cleaned it up, and the problem went away for a while. It just returned again (and is all black again) so I will be calling Traegar to get a replacement connector.
