After I use my oven, when the unit is turned off and cooling down, I start getting error code F10 and the unit starts beeping. I hit the clear button and it stops for about 5 or 10 minutes, then it starts again with the F10 and beeping. This has happened several times always right after I use the oven. HELP!

    The model # is 790.96012404

Oven Keeps coming up with an F10 error. Called Sears and they want me to have a technician come out for a mere $75.00. Once I find out the answer I will share it since it seems so many of us are experiencing it. I purchased my oven in Nov 2006.

How do you get the door open when it is locked?

  • Anonymous Jan 29, 2013

I just purchased 2007 home in 2012 that came with all Kenmore appliances. The oven started flashing the F10 code yesterday and it's very annoying. My question is why are there so many problems with this same issue? I would rather purchase a new stove with an extended warranty.

The F10 indicates that the electronic oven control board senses a runaway temperature condition in the oven through the oven sensor circuit.
This can be caused by a faulty oven temperature sensor probe or a failed electronic control board.
Oven temperature is detected by the control board as it monitors the resistance through the oven temperature sensor circuit.
You could have a failed oven temperature sensor, a wiring harness failure, an open thermal switch or a failed electronic oven control board that would cause this problem.
The first component to check would normally be the oven temperature sensor probe.
If you have a volt/ohm meter, you can shut off the breaker for the range and remove the screws that mount this sensor to the back wall of the oven.
Carefully pull the wire harness into the oven cavity until you get to the wire harness disconnect plug.
You should have enough slack to pull it this far into the oven.
Disconnect the sensor but do not let the wire harness retract back through the back wall of the oven or it will be hard to reconnect.
Measure the resistance of the oven temperature sensor with your volt/ohm meter. At room temperature, the resistance should measure around 1100 ohms.
The resistance chart is shown in the image below.

If the resistance is above 2200 ohms at room temperature, then the sensor probe is causing the F10 error code and will need to be replaced.

You can order a new sensor probe from the Sears PartsDirect website. The part number for the sensor is 316217002.

If the resistance is normal, then one of the other causes mentioned above is producing your F10 code.
You would need to access the electronic oven control board (Timer) in the console and check the resistance at the sensor circuit connection to the control board as the next step in troubleshooting this problem.

We just had an "F10" error - the oven was beeping continuously. We had been broiling with the door closed - maybe the oven heated. Anyway, the manual said to press the "stop/clear" button until it stops beeping - we did and it stopped.

We had an F10 error. The only way we could shut off the beeping was to unplug our oven from the wall. It seemed to only heat up, and continue heating up until the 'it's too hot in here' sensor went off. There is simply no temp. control anymore. We hope our warranty has not expired. I suppose it could just be the sensor - but I think it must be more than that.

Kenmore Oven 790.94173310 Giving F10 Error

If it is giving an overheat alarm, I would have replaced the sensor anyway. If you have been using the self cleaning feature of the oven, it may be that, that burned the board.

Kenmore gas oven built in. It has F10 Error Code on the control panel display.

Question edited for clarity.

You need a service call. It's dangerous.

The F10 code on a Kenmore oven means that the oven is overheating - the oven is detecting a temperature far over the safe range of operation. Most models also start beeping when this happens since it can be a safety concern.Apr. 14, 2020

Kenmore stove

Your Kenmore oven has a built-in fault detector. When the oven detects an issue, the display screen on the control panel will flash a fault code. The F10 fault code on your Kenmore oven indicates that the thermal protector on your oven's control unit, or microcontroller (MCU), has overheated. If the MCU overheats, the computer stops all motor functions. Several items on your oven could cause the thermal protector to overheat. Therefore, you must troubleshoot the F10 code to determine why it appeared on your display panel.

Message panel keeps flashing F10 error

Code F-10 indicates a temperature runaway. There are two possible problems. 1) The oven temp sensor has failed. This can be checked using a standard multimeter. The sensor is located behind the rear access panel of your oven. The sensor should read about 1100 ohms at room temperature. 2) The oven control board needs to be replaced. There are no FRU's (field replaceable units) on the control board. Check the sensor first. Even a new control board is cheaper than a new oven.
