if it is still under a bumper to bumper warranty, take it to a dealer. if not under warranty it will be cheaper to buy a used replacement radio than to have that one removed, the display fixed, and reinstalled. someone out there took a similar radio out of their mazda and upgraded to something more thief attractive. their old one is sitting for sale on a shelf at a car stereo store, a junkyard, or ebay.

You probably have a burnt out fuse. Unfortunately, it is hardwired to the motherboard. LGs solution is to take it to an authorized dealer, they will replace the motherboard for $270 part and labor. The other solution is to take off the panel in the back of the refrigerator unplug the connections from the Motherboard and disconect the it from the 4 corner pins. You will see the fuse at the bottom of the board (mine was definately burnt out). I took it to an electronics shop. They identified the fuse as a 15A / 125 v fast blo. suggested replacing it with 15 A / 125 v slow blo ceramic fuse ($1.25). They also sold me two fuse holder clips. Used soldering Iron after viewing a Utube instructional video to take out the bad fuse and install the clips (took one of the 2 prongs off and had to file the other to fit in hole) with solder. Snapped in the ceramic fuse and reinstallded in back of the refrigerator. Plugged it in and all systems are go!

My same model did this too. The wiring harness may have gone bad. Try direct wiring the stereo or replacing the wiring harness if you can get one. This fixed the problem for me.

Are you sure it's the backlight? Many Planar LCD monitors have issues with the capacitors on their power supply boards. The symptoms include a power light and no picture, or just a flash of a picture when powering up and then nothing.

The fix for some of these problems is about $8 on new capacitors (Plus shipping).

On the PL2010M monitors you need the following parts. I've added digikey part numbers to make life easier:

P10271-ND 220UF 25V Capacitor (3/4 depending on PS)
P10275-ND 470UF 25V Capacitor (1)
P10221-ND 470UF 10V Capacitor (4)

If you're not comfortable with soldering and de-soldering electronics, take it to a local technitian for the work and give them the parts list above. That should work if the failure looks like I described. I've fixed several of these monitors so far. All the problems were related to the power supplies. Same with the Planar PL1700 LCD monitors.

We had the same problem with our last rca stereo. I don't remember what model it was. My husband took it apart and found that there was and area on the circuit board that was fried. I don't know of any other solution then the one we chose. Trash it. I'm not expert but I would imagine that you could by a new stereo for the price of replacing that circuit board. Just don't buy an rca. They are junk. Our new rca just quit playing cds.
