We purchased a new electric hot water heater we installed it on a 220 line and we are not getting no hot water

Anon, It would only work if that was meant to be hooked up that way. Check the specifications in the manual or the plate on the heater itself. Check the attached links,instruction and guides, 1st link shows typical wire hook up on both 120 and 240 v. Good luck .

Replacing a water heater is no very difficult if you follow the steps.
1. If it is electric turn of the breaker and check to be sure it is the right breaker. If it is gas turn off the valve close to the water heater.
2. Turn off both the hot water and cold water valves
3. Drain all water out of the heater.
4. Disconnect the electric wiring if electric and if gas disconnect the gas line.
5. Disconnect both water lines which may have to be cut depending on how they are connected.
6. Now you can remove the water heater and discard.
7. Place new heater where old one was removed and reconnect both water lines and be sure you have a new pressure valve installed on the water heater.
8. At this point you can turn on water and check for leaks. you should also open a hot water faucet to purge the air out.
9. If no leaks go ahead and hook up the electric or gas lines and if gas is used turn it on and check for leaks using a leak detector or a spray bottle of soapy water and look for bubbles. If no leaks you can go ahead and light the heater according to its instructions.
10. If electric is used turn it on.
11. Take a long hot shower.

large water heater, turn p the themo stat to a higher setting ( watch for burns with young childern and older folks)

or the best install a tempering valve. this valve mixs hot water with cold water before it goes into the building.

Again if you have young ones or old people they can burn faster than any other group.the best is a larger heater for the DIY person.

Protect yourself first:
If your tank is rusted, there is danger of rupture.
My friend welded his leaking tank, but he assumes the risk.
Ruptured tank can cause massive damage and water runs until it is shut off.

Hot water tank is under pressure because hot water expands and pushes against tank wall.
Turn off water to tank.
Turn off power supply:
Electric: turn off circuit breaker.
Gas: rotate knob to pilot so pilot stays lit but burner will not fire. To turn back on, rotate knob to ON.
Open hot side bathtub valve and relieve pressure on tank.

You can limp by with rusted tank by turning water heater on when hot water is needed.
Shower uses 5-9 gallons hot water
Bath uses 12-15 gallon hot water
Ordinary gas heater makes 41 gallons hot water per hour
Ordinary electric heater makes 20 gallons hot water per hour.

I buy water heaters at Lowes, Home Depot, Ace.
Look for scratch and dent models.
Buy drip pan for water heater.
Wrap electric heater totally with insulation except TP valve.
Buy new flexible connectors for water lines.
Offer 15% less than marked price on tank, because the store makes money on additional items.

You have 240volt electric water heater
Check both elements for leaking.
Check top of tank for leaking pipes.

If water heater is leaking from side of tank, then tank is rusted out and could rupture.
This tank must be replaced.

If you are going to install heater yourself:
Look at label on side of old tank to identify size and particulars.
I buy ordinary heaters from Lowes and Home Depot and always buy scratch-n-dent models when possible, because superficial damage to outer tank does not lower lifespan of heaters I have installed.
Buy same size heater if it worked fine before.
Buy new flexible water connectors.
Set water heater in drip pan.
Offer 10% less than price shown. Make them deal with you. Shop Ace hardware, Lowes, Home Depot. Kick the tires since you have a bit of time.

I know you have electric heater, but many folks read these answers, so I include info on gas too.
#1 rule) tankless heaters are a rich-man's toy, because tankless will never pay you back, and will become major money pit if you encounter 1 repair. Electric tankless heaters require larger electric service box. Gas tankless require larger gas line (larger gas line, more gas consumption, bigger bill unless you cut consumption)

The difference with electric, is turn off power, disconnect wires, and reconnect wires exactly like before. Set electric heater directly on insulated surface like dense blue styrafoam. Cut styrafoam in circle so it fits inside dip pan. Wrap entire electric heater with insulation blanket, except don't cover TP valve.
4) Connect bare copper jumper wire between hot and cold pipes to prevent stray current corrosion which will shorten life of tank. Make sure cold water line is grounded.

The hot water heater should come with an amperage rating on it.
They vary from 30 to 40 amps, and then 10 or 8 gauge wire.
(All hot water heaters are 220 volt.)
I believe the 602 uses a 4500 watt element.
Divide 4500 by 220, and you get about 20 amps.

If you want to be on the safe side, you go with the heavier wire, 8 gauge, and then go with the smaller breaker that is more easily tripped, 30 amps. That way you can switch to a 40 amp breaker in the future, without having to change the wiring. The goal is to always make sure the wire is rated higher than the breaker. You want you breaker to trip before your wire melts.
But technically a 30 amp breaker and 10 gauge wire would be fine for this heater.

And since it is 220 volt, you will always use a double breaker.
That is because 220 volt appliances don't use a ground, but instead use the potential between to power wires that are 180 degrees out of phase. AC always does a sine wave, and the 2 power leads coming into the house are always out of phase. When one is 110 volts up, the other is down. So the total between them is 220 volts. And the way they intentionally zigzag the breaker box, 2 breakers next to each other always are on opposite power lines.

If you have any doubts at all about 220 and water heater wiring, please ask again. Wiring is not hard, but you have to understand what you are doing, or else you can cause serious consequences.
For example, if you use wire nuts or wrap wire around a screw, you need to always turn them clockwise, so they pull the wire when tightened.
You also always need to ground the chassis with a green safety wire.
Since a 220 hot water heater uses 2 power wires and a safety ground, the white wire should be striped with a permanent marker, so that it is not confused with the white neutral wire of a 110 volt appliance.

Check the elements, if you have access to a meter to check them. If they are getting power to elements and you have no hot water.
The elements are not working correctly. I had some elements check out ok till the thermostat's turned on and the elements didn't heat.
Sounds like the elements are bad.

1. if your hot water heater is electric there is no open flame or pilot light. They have electric heating coils,normally they are 220 volts.Follow the metal conduit up and back to the box check the breakers there will be two of them in for the hot water heater if it is 220 there will be only one fuse/breaker if it is 110. Check to see that they are on.

Hello, I just noticed this question, which provides more info than your other one did. I thought you had an existing (older) water heater and provided info for checking a potentially faulty, (failed) heating element.

After seeing and reading this question, it sounds as if you have a problem with the 220V-AC electric supply going to the water heater. I would start by checking the circuit breaker to verify that the breaker is operating properly, since it might be that you're only getting one side of the breaker to pass electricity to the water heater, meaning that the heater isn't going to be able to operate at 120 volts properly.

There could also be a bad connection at the water heater when it was installed, or a break in the wiring from the electric panel to the water heater. Check at the circuit breaker panel first, being careful to test the breaker with a multi-meter to verify that the breaker is passing the voltage from panel thru to the screws that the wiring is connected to.

You will need to follow the circuit from the panel all the way to the water heater, taking care to check any connection points, such as a possible junction box. However, the wiring from the panel to the water heater, should be one continuous run without any other junctions or splices, so if the wiring is faulty, you will need to replace the wiring to be in code compliance.
