Are you sure it's agitating?there's a motor coupling that brakes, you'll hear the motor running but it isn't doing a thing, the coupling connects the motor to the tranny. and it's made out of plastic, check this out,if it's not this then you could have a bad tranny and you can check while you're checking the coupling usually when the tranny goes there's oil from it on the floor or on the area around where the motor is.copy and paste this the video should help you out.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9K1KHEogf3c
Yes sir, I did make sure it was agitating......The trany has lost some oil, but apparently it has been a good while, the spot I found was completely dried up.......
I got under it and checked the belt & pulley and I am able to turn them.
It just seems like something is not engaging to spin the tub......you can tell the motor is spinning, and it is trying to spin the tub. I have turn the tub from the inside also, to make sure it was not locked in position.......I have even tried turning while I had the machine turned on. it just is not catching to spin......
Could this still be the coupling, even though it agitates?
If not, do you have any other suggestions.......
p.s. - I have checked the lid switch also.....seems to be working o.k.
wait how old is this and what's the model number,if this has a belt on it it must be very old,all i would do is take the belt off, look at it,if it looks glazed replace it,if that doesn't help i wouldn't put another penny into that machine,if you're having tranny. or a timer problem the money it would cost to fix it you'd be close to how much it is to buy a new top load kenmore, the newer kenmore top load washers don't have belts they have a motor coupling they are direct drive washers and then you have front load washers that are more expensive, you can still get a top load for around 450 dollars but soon all there will be is front load washers.buy a new washer.
