Ihave 2 2401-20 compact drivers with lithium ion batteries, one is less than a year old and the other is probably 2 yrs old both worked fine and then the batteries started going bad. At least when put them in the charger it flashes that the batteries are bad. All four batteries did this within 2 months. I don't know if its the chargers or the batteries, I have to assume its the batteries. I have a Makita thats 14 yrs old and the batteries are still fine and two dewalts that are 7 and 10 yrs old with good batteries. What's up with Milwaukee?

Since you are looking for new charger for you husband, I would advice to buy these lithium chargers only as they are far more compact than traditional ones and are safer to use.Lithium jump starters are new and different battery chargers from tranditional ones. They were introduced in 2013. Amongst the recommeded ones, I would advice you to buy PowerGo or DB power jump starter as these are the most powerful and affordable ones. the problem is most likely the battery, lithium ion batteries only last so many years, then they start holding less of a charge, eventually unable to hold a charge at all, this process can be accelerated by frequent unnecessary charging. if you replace the battery it will probably work fine
How old is your battery? Lithium ion based batteries normal life is 2 years starting from the date of manufacture, sometimes even less. Try using another battery and see if it will charged properly. You can also use the adapter in a compatible laptop and check if it will charge the battery.
