If you are the original owner of the DELL, telephone DELL, and they can help you with the "power-on" password.

In what way? To remove a password you can do this with a software suite ( not advisable if you are unsure of the procedure.) Or you could just re-install the Operating System.

The laptop may be overheating. Check that all vents are clear and dust free. Listen for the internal fan. This should operate only occassionally. If it is operating all the time and speeds up just before the laptop freezes then something is causing the laptop to overheat. If the fan cannot be heard at any time, then the fan may be faulty.

Depending on your specific model, you should have the option of disabling your touchpad when a USB mouse is plugged in. Open control panel and look for the mouse settings. If that option is not available, there are a number of free utility programs you can download to achieve this.
