Just purchased a GEAR HEAD model number WCII00BLU. I have Windows 7 Home edition. . . Says it works with Windows XP vista and 7. got all the software from the disk downloaded and the icon on the desk top. click the icon and nothing happens. so I trouble shoot and it brings up WINDOWS XP service package 2. And it will then run the web cam on my desk top, but as soon as I try skype or yahoo it shuts down and I get the blue screen with the hard drive dump. . . . What the heck is going on. Not sure what else to trouble shoot here, the booklette doesn't come with this issue and I purchased 2 of these so I could send one to my mom. Please advise

You will need to know the operating system or model number to determine which version of a Mavis Beacon product is compatible with the Inspiron Mini. The Inspiron Mini 9 came with Windows XP. The Mini 10 1010 could have XP, Vista or Windows 7. The Mini 10 1012 came with XP, Windows 7 or Ubuntu Moblin. The Mini 12 1210 came with XP or Vista.

The specifications of your computer are top of the line and can handle different applications and soft ware. Based on the hardware specs you've posted this should support Windows 7. But keep in mind that some of your hardware components may need be compatible w/ Windows 7 ( like bluetooth, camera, lan adapter, or wlan). In other words they don't have software driver that is compatible w/ Windows 7.
Also, based on Acer's support site: http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/desktop/0000/Acer/AspireM5100/AspireM5100sp2.shtml
This are the only Operating Systems that this model supports:
Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 2 Windows Vista™ Home Premium Windows Vista™ Home Basic
Hello:
I hope the following information is helpful.
If you are trying to install the driver for the Broadcom ethernet NIC that was pre-installed (NOT an ethernet card that you purchased and installed yourself), there is a softpack (updated driver installation) download available from HP/Compaq. It will install the driver automatically for you, just download it from the link below and run the ".exe" file.
IMPORTANT: Check to be sure that your current Operating System, and model of the network device you are trying to install, are BOTH listed below BEFORE you download!

First you will need to register at gateway, I took the serial number you provided and gateway has no record of it, once you register it, you should be able to purchase the recovery disks. I'm including the link: https://secure.tx.acer.com/RCDB/Main.aspx?brand=gateway&sn=0000000000 you need to register in order for this link to work, that serial number has to be in gateways system, once it is you can order recovery media. Hope this helps
You may need to check to see which "service pack" you are currently on.

There are currently no known issues with Service Pack 1 for Windows

You can upgrade from your current edition of Microsoft Windows XP or
Windows 2000 to a corresponding or better edition of Windows Vista by
purchasing and installing an upgrade copy of Windows Vista. While selecting the edition of Windows Vista that's right for you, it's
important to clearly understand what hardware your PC will need to
ensure the features you want will run reliably.
