Due to the many different questions I see about Air Conditioning, I am including this overview to help us better understand each other for trouble shooting. A basic air conditioning system has a Thermostat, Air Handler or Furnace Fan and a Condensing unit. In a split system, the condensing unit (Condenser) is separate from the furnace and usually in the back yard. When working properly, it blows hot air. It connects to the cooling part of the system by 2 copper lines. One large line and 1 small line. The part that cools the house is the "Evaporator" and is usually on top of the furnace inside the square metal box (Plenum). When the Air Conditioner is running, the large copper line should be cold and the smaller line should be warm. Common signs of low refrigerant are that both lines are the same temperature and/or frost or ice has built up on the large line at the condenser. The thermostat will normally display room temperature on till it is touched to change the setting. It could have a "Span" setting as well as times and temperatures. The operating "span" of MOST residential thermostats is 40 to 90 degrees. That means you can set it as low as 40 degrees and no higher than 90 degrees. It probably has a fan switch also. When in the "ON" position, the fan will run constantly, 24 / 7, but the condenser will still cycle on and off as needed to keep the house at set point. If you have a suggestion to include in this paragraph, please let me know.

Take a look at everything above. Let me know what type of help you need. Roger

Heat and air not working on new home.

Hi,

please check the vents in the rooms that are not cooling well. There might be a hole/leak in your heating system. The thermostat itself might not be the problem. If possible, please research google nest to check if it has multiple thermostats that can be used to more accurately state the average temperature across several rooms of your home.

You might need to get an hvac diagnostic to find and plug all of the leaks in your home before deciding to alter any of your heating system.

Thank you.

Cool air when running; warm air when compressor is off.

It sounds as if warm outside air is being drawn back into the room when the unit is not actively cooling. Portable units depend on room air to carry the heat outside, & therefore will not work properly if the room is too airtight. Provide a makeup air passage by leaving the door slightly open, & see if this helps. Use a room thermometer to see if your desired temperature is being reached. Note that if the wind is strong & coming from the wrong direction, it may not be possible to prevent warm air drawback.

Air is not cooling

You might be feeling an increase in temperature coming out of the case in comparison to room temperature. I believe the problem you are experiencing is that computer is cooling itself down just from a higher temperature than you might expect hence the warm air. Download the program speedfan and check the temperature of your cores, they may be as high as 100 degrees farenheit, Don't worry about it too much unless you're actually overheating, if its a laptop make sure the bottom of the laptop isn't resting on anything solid as it severely reduces airflow in and out of the case making it heat up.

Aux keeps coming on on regular heat is there something wrong with heat

See if it happens only when your temperature of the room is more than 3 degrees of your setpoint temperature. Since you have a heat pump, the auxiliary (electric heat strips) is use for backup of the heat pump when it can't keep up. The heat pump will run by itself if it can maintain temperature within a couple degrees. If it is too cold outside to handle the load or you set the temperature more than 2 degrees past room temperature, the auxiliary will turn on. The thermostat has a memory of how long it takes to reach desired temperature. If it goes into auxiliary mode trying to satisfy setpoint during the last call for heat, it will start the next call for heat in both aux & heat pump mode until the thermostats algorithm (timed program) allows only the heat pump to run. Not sure if you have an air to air, or geothermal heat pump. The outside air temperature will affect only the air to air system ie. when the temps drop outside, the heat coming out of your vents will be cooler...the air to air systems drops efficiency when the outdoor air drops.

Why won't my lg ductless heat pump regulate the room temperature?

After I have been reading up on your unit it appears that the thermostat is not operating correctly. I found this real basic information on installation for your unit. This link I am giving is pretty basic instal schematics. But seems to be something about your thermostat needs to be dialed in or is not working properly.

I hope this helps some. Mike

I have a westinghouse window unit and I think it has heat strips for the heat. How do I tell if it is a true heat pump or if it has heat strips and how do I get to the Heat strips in the unit to check.

If it is a heat pump, the compressor will be running both in cool mode and in normal heat mode.

Confirm the current indoor temperature. Turn the thermostat up one degree at a time until it comes on. This will typically be 1 to 4 degrees increase. As soon as it comes on stop increasing the temp.

If the compressor is running, it is a heat pump.

Check the temperature coming our of the vents at that time. You should have 30 to 60 degrees increase from the air temp going into the unit and the conditioned air temp coming out.

Then turn the T-stat up another 10 degrees. If the temp coming out of the vents increases by 20 degrees or more. the strips are on.

The strips operate in three situations.
1) the system is set to emergency heat
2) The heat pump cannot keep up with the demand for heat. (because its too cold outside, the desired temp setting is greater than 4 to 8 degrees above the room temp, or the HP is malfunctioning.)
3) The HP is in defrost mode

You could also take the panels off the unit and look for a reversing valve, but unless you know what you are looking for you will not recognise it.

We bought a 8000btu air cond and used it last summer. It is in a room 16X20. It has never seemed to blow cold enough air and will not keepthe room cool enough. I,m wondering if there is a service depot...

The A/C is small for the application. If there is any sun shining into the room it will add heat. If the room is open to other rooms the square footage it is cooling will multiply in proportion. Using a thermometer check the temperature of the air going into it and the temperature coming off of it out the grills. If the difference in temperature is 20°F or greater it is doing the job it was designed to do. If you shut it off when you leave and turn it on after the day heat has built up it will not seem to overcome it.

The Honeywell Programmable Heat Pump Thermostat CT3611R is not adjusting the temperature to a cool setting. Cool air is coming out of the vents however the temperature on the thermostat remains the same...

if your problem has existed since the begining of installment it could be a return/ thermostat placement problem. if the return is to close to any supply vents it will run like that and your thhermostat will read like that

I am experiencing a similar problem with my Mitsubishi slimline MSH09TW unit; about 4 years old; It use to give us very hot air now it is giving some what hot air; northeastern USA current temperature about 15F. You think frigid weather in Cranbury NJ could be responsible or some thing else is going on. Please help me if you have some time and knowledge about Mitsubishi heat pumps. Sincerely, DSS
