The SD630 works with SD cards. Your 16GB card is an SDHC card and will not work with this camera. You need to use SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

SOURCE: I have a Panasonic Lumix

If this is a new card, it needs to be formatted in the camera first. If it has pics on it, you need to download them first using a card reader if necessary.

Ge X550 will not switch to memory card when it is installed, stays on internal memory

Hi, a few possibilities...you may have a menu setting that only saves to internal memory, so: clear your custom menus and check your shooting and playback settings. The specs on your camera states that it supports up to 16GB card, so the problem should be a menu setting. Also make sure the little tab on the left side of the SD card is NOT in the lock position.

Memory card full

If you already used the card in the same camera, the only thing I can think of is you did switch the lock switch on the SD memory card. Or there must be one or more protected images on your card. If the card comes out of another camera be sure it is a SD or a SDHC card, not bigger than 16 Gbyte because a SDXC card would be one size to big. The manual says max card size 16 GB
If you accedentely formatted the card in the PC (or MAC) it could be you did put a format on the card the camera does not understand. Most camera's use FAT (max 32) and never NTFS.
Try to format the SD card in your PC.

Normally, you can only insert an SD card one way. Try a different SD card or check to see if the SD card you're using has the "write protect" switch on. If that's not the issue try formatting the card in your PC and then format it in the camera.

It's a lost cause. The A540 works with SD cards. While SDHC cards will fit into the slot, they are electronically incompatible and will not work in devices not designed for them. You need to stay with SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

The camera reads memory card error but when I go to the menu to format the card the format catagory is not highlighted and when you page down it skips over the format area. I am using a scan disk mobile...

There are no 16GB SD cards. A card that size is actually an SDHC card (yours actually sounds like a Micro-SDHC card). SD and SDHC cards fit the same slots, but they are slightly different. Many cameras won't work with the SDHC (high capacity) cards. SDHC is not backwards compatible.

You really don't need a card this size on a still camera. 1Gb is plenty. If you really need more space, you can carry a spare, like people used to take extra films with them on holiday.

I don't know why the 512Mb card is giving you trouble. This might indicate an actual fault.

Here's the specs for your camera from Canon. Sorry, but an SDHC card is not listed as compatible with your camera. Only SD or MMC. Now look on your 16 and 32GB cards. You'll see SDHC stamped there. Although SDHC looks exactly the same as a standard SD card, the format the cards use are very different. Unfortunately your camera was designed before the SDHC format came out.
You'll need to instead purchase a standard SD card (those that are 2GB or less). Fortunately these are very inexpensive these days, with 2GB cards going for around $6 with shipping.
