Problem with Compaq Fortran & Vista

Hello, I have a problem installing Compaq Fortran 6.6 on Windows Vista. I installed it under administrator account, but when I tried to open the Developer Studio, a windows popped up with the following message:
"A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available" and it does nothing and the program can't be opened. I would appreciate any ideas or suggestion on how to fix the problem.

Thank you,
Sanaz

Running as an adminstrator allows the program to open, but I still can not compile any files. As a note, I installed the program in compatibility mode for XP SP2. When I run the program, I also run it in compatibility mode to no avail.

I found the solution fortunately:

It's enough to do a right click on the bottom: "Developer Studio" instead of double click, and select: "Run as Administrator" , then select: "Allow" and so on..

Try it, it works!

    hello, I found the solution!!!

I use windows 7, and I found the problem when I used my compaq visual fortran. I just to do a right click on the bottom: Developer Studio and click in Properties icon and to go to Compatibility bar, so I check the option "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and put it in "Windows Vista (Service Pack 2)".

Try it, it work with my problem and now I can use the Compaq Visual Fortran!!!!

I have compaq visual fortran professional edition 6.6 for win32x86 systems (year 2001). I am trying to install it on my new windows 64 bit Dell desktop. It does not install. When I click the setup.exe, I...

Click Start
Click All Programs
Click Accessories
Click Program Compatibility Wizard
Tell Windows (64-bit) that you are trying to install a 32-bit application.

Or, upgrade to the latest version of Compaq's Fortran system.

How to run digital fortran 6 on windows vista

Here is what I did. Open the DVD (right click and select Open), and then open the X86 folder. Run the Setup.exe file from there and it should install and work fine. I had an error during install near the end, but it seems to have done no harm. I compiled one of my old Fortran apps and it works fine.

96% setup was unable to create the program folder

I had the same problem, to solve it I repeat the installation and when the message "Setup was unable to create the program folder" I went to installation directory "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio" and I made a copy of the whole directory to another location in my hard drive. Then I back to installation screen and I accepted the message box. As it was expected original installation folder disappeared. I restored installation folder from the copy I had made previously. At last I created a short cut to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio\Common\MSDEV98\BIN\DFDEV.EXE" and started Visual Fortran from this shell without any problem. I hope this tip could be useful, regards. tbeltran

Reinstallation problem

Same error here. Compaq Visual Fortran 6.5/6.6.
I think is a problem related to Windows XP SP3.

- Solution:
Re-install Windows XP SP3 (integrated).
Right after installation (no reboot) run the CVF installer. It will work.
Then do normall installation stuff.
If you have Windows XP SP2 you won't have any problem.
Hope it helps.

Couldn't find ANY solution with SP3 installed before CVF installation.

Compiling and linking in vista

Vista's not my favorite yet, either.

There could be a million reasons why it won't run, many of which you won't be able to do anything about.

That said, perhaps turning off the UAC security, defining another user as an administrator, and trying to run Fortran might help. At least you won't be running into the whole "run as administrator" nightmare.

But, here's another thought...

If you're machine is powerful enough, maybe you could use Virtual PC or VMWare to build an XP machine where it will run.

(I cut my programming teeth on Fortran, a looong time ago!)
