It means the computer has encountered a critical error when booting up. One reason may be the power. If your power supply is rated 110V and you plugged it in to 220V, it could be one reason. Another is, you have a bad RAM. Turn off your computer and unplug it. Then try opening the computer case, remove the memory and clean it with a clean cloth, and then put it back firmly. If that doesn't work, do the same with your video card (if you have one). If that still doesn't work, you'll need your computer to be serviced.

My emachines desktop ET1161-07 is randomly playing a high-low beep

A virus check might not get all malware. Download Malwarebytes free and do a scan with that. Check the add-ons installed in you browsers and get rid of superfluous or strange ones. Use msconfig to check which programs are loaded at start up. Uncheck unnecessary or suspicious ones. Good luck.

It seems that there is RAM issue because of which you are 1 long beep and 2 short beeps refers on your Sony Viao laptop in such case the basic thing is to replace your RAM and youn't be able to get the beep sound again or else you can also Rub the golden foil of your RAM with rubber and try to insert it again. Hope it works for you.

Maxdata tower computer : - when switched on bleeps 2/3 times and doesn't engage the mouse or the keyboard and the monitor shows " no video input ".Just no response and doesn't turn itself on...

BIOS Beep Codes
Whenever a recoverable error occurs during POST, the BIOS displays an error message describing the problem. The BIOS also issues a beep code (one long tone followed by two short tones) during POST if the video configuration fails (a faulty video card or no card installed) or if an external ROM module does not properly checksum to zero.
An external ROM module (for example, a video BIOS) can also issue audible errors, usually consisting of one long tone followed by a series of short tones. For more information on the beep codes issued, check the documentation for that external device.
There are several POST routines that issue a POST terminal error and shut down the system if they fail. Before shutting down the system, the terminal-error handler issues a beep code signifying the test point error, writes the error to I/O port 80h, attempts to initialize the video and writes the error in the upper left corner of the screen (using both monochrome and color adapters).
If POST completes normally, the BIOS issues one short beep before passing control to the operating system.

The pc is powered but not booting up

you need to describe it more clearly. Anyway, first thing is to listen to the beep sound (google: bios beep code) to identify the initial problem

Beep sound while booting?

is likely normal.
many computers beep when what is called the 'bios' first starts up. Older computers used to even tick as they did an initial memory check.
