Had Iomega Zip 100 IDE on Win98 years ago. Last night got the drive working again on XP with Iomega XP drivers but cannot use my password to unlock protected zip disk. Why does my password no longer work (apart from the obvious "you must be using the wrong password"). Help!

SOURCE: save my zip disk 100

Try another drive. The internal Zipp drives are better than the extenals due to the communication. Magnetic media is still more reliable than optical. If you have a DV camcorder, do not erase your tapes after the transfer to DVD. The dye on some of the media is not making it pst 7 years.

SOURCE: write protected zip disk

you can always try to format and delete all the data, then recover it, recuva can help you recover it, its free from recuva.com. but that would be last resort

My Z100atapi Zip drive is recognized by Windows 7, but the old disks are not in a recognized file format. I need to get the old data ..

Greetings - According to Iomega your 100 MB ZIP drive media should be fine at being at least readable (the Iomega software does not work with Win 7) natively by Win 7 and Vista. Since the drive is recognized I suspect the problem is actually the discs themselves.

It turns out that the discs were not very good at long term storage and are notorious enough to have a term referring to the problem as the "Zip Burp" where:

  • A) All files on the disk disappear
  • B) Just Compressed Formats such as JPG, ZIP, CAB, ECT Disapear
  • C) "The Disk Needs To Be Reformatted" message is displayed or
  • D) files disappear as you click them

The only way that I know to find out for sure if your discs are good is if you can find someone with an XP machine that will let you temporarily install your Zip drive (including the latest drivers) and see what happens.

Good Luck,

Mikeywaf

How to install iomega zip 100 model z100usbs

If youre connecting it to XP or Vista, chances are it will detect and install automatically. The CD may not be necessary. You can try iomega's website for updated drivers if you need them.

Well your Q. is not very clear but as per my concern it is not a problem of Window XP. You have not download the correct Driver of it. Surch for the exact Driver and install it on your computer.
