"Too dark" or do you really mean "totally black"? I'm asking because a stuck shutter is a very common failure mode for your particular model camera.
The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, sometimes with lines, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open). To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.

Will a 16gb SDHC card fit in and work in my Cannon Powershot A610 camera

No. The A610 works with MMC and SD cards, not SDHC cards. While SDHC cards will fit into the slot, they are electronically incompatible and will not work.

How is date stamp set on pictures with Cannon PowerShot A610?

You have to activate this option from under the settings menu. When you activate or enable it, it would actually put a stamp of the date and time the picture was taken.
You can go through your manual to obtain information on how to do this further.

YES HI my cam will not turn on. its a powershot a610 cannon cameria

Things to check first are battery contact points, and micro switches that are located on the battery and memory card doors. Details on what needs to be checked may be seen here. It won't work for every case, but it's worth a try.

Cannon powershot sd 300

flash may have been dislodged and out of true. or may be the lens is out of alignment or a shutter blade is not functioning. Dropping them sure does them no good at all. Into the repair shop with it
