Machine was fine yesterday - today - two annoying errors that WILL NOT go away. I have googled and searched but only find reg clean variety software that doesn't seem to be the issue. Running the 'free scan' provides a list of 'found issues' and none of them are really anything more than broken file paths. I did locate a google toolbar .dll and delete it via regeidt... but I am still getting the errors. Thoughts?, big heavy hammers?, advice for throwing myself from a nearby bridge?

1. Boot up in "Safe Mode", but choose the one with "With Command Prompt"
2. Once you have the Command Prompt, change to directory by typing:
CD c:\windows\system32\splm + ENTER. Or d: or whatever your windows directory is called.
3. Change the attributes of the files in this directory not to be hidden:
ATTRIB *.* -H
4. If you go DIR + ENTER you will see 3 files
kbdsapi.dll
lmfunit32.dll
ncsjapi32.exe
5. DEL *.* + ENTER should delete them.
Your problems are over !
But go and delete the Registry entries, as in ATony's suggestion.
Find a folder called 'spl' in C:\Windows\System32
Rename it to splold
Reboot PC
Error message will appear to say the file cannot be found - click OK
Navigate back to C:\Windows\System32 and delete the 'splold' folder

I have used system restore to remove this problem, setting computer to an earlier date. But you have to be fast when attempting to get to system restore or the runtime errors will freeze the screen. As soon as the icons load click programs, accessories, system tools and then restore, BUT YOU HAVE TO DO IT QUICKLY!
Ok, bit of a compilation of some other I have seen but it worked for me. First, switch off system restore, then boot up in safe mode. There were 4 places I found the offending file, which on my computer masqueraded as an Intelli Mouse file (whatever that is). First on a simple search, for *japi*.* files where it shows up as ncsjapi32.exe, it says its in System32/spml folder but that folder doesn't show up in explorer, there were also 2 other files in the folder, so do a search by date for the last week and you will find all 3. Second was using (yes another program to download) HijackThis, which shows all the open programs, sort of like a control Alt Del, but better, and gives you the option to delete the open programs under "fix it" in the bottom left. The third place was under the start menu, and "run" any type in MSCONFIG, where under the start up programs it again shows up. And 4th, again in start "run"under the "regedit"under HKey current users/software/microsoft/windows/currentversion there are run and runonce and it shows up in both.
So have all 4 open, then unclick the program in the configsys, so that it doesn't automatically start up, the deleted it in the regedit, and the hijackthis (sometimes 2 or 3 entries here so don't be fooled), and on the search (plus the two other files that were in the same folder & the folder). Then reboot again in safe mode.
If it seems to have fixed it, check all the above places to make sure they are all gone. Hope it works, if not sorry, it did for me

also tried spyware and regcare but both didn't work. getting double errors but at different numbers every time logged on. If close one can continue to work but otherwise it won't go away
Have the same issue. When I run Hijackthis, I see three 04- entries of an alleged "Intelli Mouse Pro Version 2.0B" running from C:\Windows\System32\splm\ncsjapi.32.exe. I don't see that directory, so I'm suspicious that's what's causing my problem. If I remove if via Hijack, it just reappears w/the next reboot. No idea how to remove/resolve.
I'm having a very similar problem. Computer was fine last night, but this morning found the computer with an end task screen, and every time I shut it down and tried to reboot, once I logged on my icons would appear (no wallpaper) and two identical Runtime Error 21 codes would appear. The first string of digits would change with each reboot, but always had 49D2 as the final 4 in the string (017049D2, or 00BD49D2, etc...). The problem is, everytime I hit ok or close out the error code boxes, my screen goes blue, the icons reappear, and then I get two more identical Runtime boxes. I can't seem to navigate anywhere, so don't know how to proceed. Any advice would be appreciated...
I also have this virus. I got it from a facebook wall post. There are some other forums discussing possible solutions - search on google and you'll find them. They best advice seems to come from Tech Support Guy Forum.
I have experienced the same 49D2 error problems others have posted which began when my son opened an e mail proportedly from his sister with no subject line. Sister denies having sent any message. Hmmmm? I could not get into safe mode. I could get to the Windows screen to begin safemode but once in didn't seem to have control of the mouse any longer.
once I have switched on and the desktop has come up, two dialogue boxes appear in sequence both with the same message "runtime error 21 xyzabc"
(it varies). As long as I only close 1, it tends not to interfere with anything.
I do find that if I close both, I get the momentary message
"setting up personalised settings for c:\windows\system32\splm\ncsjapi32.exe", which disappears rapidly
I have followed various current suggestions like starting in safe mode and searching on ncsjapi.. etc, to no avail
My computer won't go directly to prompt...it launches in safe mode..when I get to the files via run CMD...it won't let me delete. It says access denied. Please Help!
