My Sony CRX320EE-88 cant read bootable cd/dvd. Yes it registers at the bios on boot up and its also detected on my windows start up but when it comes to playing cd's and dvd's, it cant read both of them. It was working properly before i update most of my software, but since then, that problem i mentioned always irritates me when i try to boot from CD. What should i do? can you please help me?

Make sure that the cdrw/dvd rom is getting enough power test all leads that are attached to the cd/dvd rom including electical extensions and make sure they have a secure connection or just replace them there might be bad/faulty or the drivers may have been corrupted or you might have a virus run your antivrus program you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd burner then plug them back in this should activate the found new hardware wizard or you might have to uninstall then reinstall your DVD/CD or uninstall the driver then reinstall for this device Click start control panel administrive tools, computer management, device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question mark ? right click you will have options to update driver, roll back driver,or select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem if you cant see your disk drive in windows explorer
Close all open programs

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Upper Filters

Lower Filters

Upper Filters.bak

Lower Filters.bak

If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer

Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.
hope this helps

Cannot boot from cd and run setup

When booting, the writing on the black screen should give you a couple of options akin to

Press F2 to edit boot options or
Press "Del" to enter setup. (bios)

You can use either, but you need to set your CD/DVD disk drive as the first boot option.

Laptop wont boot from cd/dvd drive, hard drive is cleasn, no viru

Hi usavahe.
Booting from CD should be possible.
1) When the laptop first starts to power up, repeatedly press the F12 key. This should bring you to a screen that lets you select the boot device.
2) For the Satellite, it may show icons across the bottom of the screen. You want the one that looks like a CD.
3) It should the start to boot from the Windows CD (if it is indeed a bootable disc) and you will see the message "press any key to boot from cd".
4) Press any key you want on the keyboard and the Windows CD installation process should begin

Hope that helps

DVD not detect at bios. why

if you press enter or space when you have an item highlighted does it not give you the option to add the dvd / cd ?

On some bioses it is there its just that its been disabled as an extra boot device to speed things up so that its not always trying to read or find a cd to boot from so if you press the key it requests you to ( near the bottom of the screen when you are in the bootable devices section ) it will explain how to alter or add them. If you follow the instructions you should be able to add it as a bootable device

If its not detecting any discs in the drive whilst in the bios thats because you need to save the settings in the bios to boot from the cd / dvd and the disc ( cd or dvd ) has to be made bootable and then once the bootable disc is in the cd / dvd drive and you have saved the settings in the bios and restarted it should boot from the disc thats in there.

If you need to make a disc bootable you can either use nlite or you can get guides on how to make a disc bootable if you search google.

Your operating disc and a linux disc(s) are all bootable

Boot a Sony DVD RW DRU-840A drive in DELL precision 530

Have you tried changing the boot order.

If you're trying to use it as a boot device you need to tell the system to boot the cd /dvd drive FIRST and of course you need to have a bootable cd / dvd in the drive.

Let me know if you're already tried this.

Boot from your cd rom using your windows cd. Adjust your BIOS setting to boot from cd rom. Follow the instruction carefully. When partition editor screen come, break all partition and resize partition as your choice. Than install windows on drive 'C'. You r done. If you cant boot, try using another bootable cd. DDW-081 CD\DVD Recorder can't read CD

It is possible for your optical drive to read only DVDs and not CD. This is most likely a fault with your drive and may need a repair or replacement.
